Prince George, B.C. - Another court appearance today for the Edmonton man charged in connection with the abandonment of two horses in the Renshaw region of McBride last winter.
Frank MacKay has previously said he tried to rescue the horses, Bell and Sundance, but was unable to do so and left the animals to fend for themselves.
The plight of the horses was brought to light when some snowmobilers discovered the animals in chest deep snow just before Christmas. A community effort saw volunteers, braving bitterly cold temperatures, hand dig a trench more than a kilometre long to walk the horses to safety.
The animals were seized by the SPCA and have since been placed in new homes.
MacKay is facing three counts of animal cruelty, two of which are under the Criminal Code of Canada. The case is scheduled to be in McBride Provincial Court today.

he will probably be found guilty and his sentence will be harsher than that of a drunk driver who killed someone
I hope he is found guilty... what he did was horrible..
The humane thing to do was to shoot them, but he claims not to have had a gun. I think that would be a lie, Who would go up into that part of the country without a gun. He was guiding up in that country.
They were his horses. How he disposes of them is his business. Listen up here. Horses are not human and when we refer to animals,'humane' should not be part of the question. If he was hoping they would pull through the winter and left them - - I say good choice. He has done nothing wrong. Let's talk about the guy who beheaded someone on a bus and will probably walk for his effort. That is something we should be worried about - - not someones horses. Alberta has thousands of wild horses and snowmobilers chase them to death. Jeeezzz
Horses are live breathing creatures and we as humans have a responsibility to respect them. What this man did or rather did not due showes that he has no respect for living things. Done nothing wrong? You have got to be kidding? Cruelity to animals is against the law. What that man did on the bus was inexcusable however it like comparing apples to oranges.
Supertech; I hope you don't own any pets. I'm assuming by your post that you're okay with snowmobilers chasing horses.

However, I do agree with you about the folks that do horrendous crimes to humans. We all need to be very worried about the way those criminals are dealt with.
