Prince George, B.C. - Northern Health is calling for a new round of applications as its Aborginal Health Initiatives Program (AHIP) enters its eighth year.
Since the program's launch in 2002, AHIP has funded more than 196 holistic community-based projects offering human resources, education, and awareness campaigns covering a range of health issues. This year, $326,000 is available for new initiatives across the north.
"The Aboriginal Health Initiatives Program supports the Province's efforts to close the gaps in health status between First Nations people and other British Columbians," said Minister of Healthy Living and Sport Ida Chong. "This is one of the Province's initiatives aimed at directly and positively impacting the lives of Aboriginal people in B.C."
Northern Health is inviting all Northern BC First Nations communities to submit project proposals. Aboriginal, Inuit, and Métis non-profit organizations mandated to provide health/social services are also eligible. The applications will go to an adjudication committee including Aboriginal representatives and Northern Health staff for review.
The deadline for applications is Friday, December 11, 2009 at 4:00 PM. Information and application forms are available by:
