Prince George Confirmed as 2015 Games Bid City

Prince George, B.C. - The Canada Games Council has announced that Prince George’s intent to bid letter on the 2015 Canada Winter Games has been received, officially moving the community to the next phase in the bid process.
Prince George will be competing to host these multi-sport games with the communities of Kamloops and Kelowna. The 2015 Canada Games will mark the third time in history that the Games are hosted in the province of British Columbia and the first time for BC to host a Winter Games.
Noting the significance of this announcement, Mayor Rogers stated, “I along with my Council colleagues, are pleased to support the effort to bid on these prestigious games. The community is excited about the opportunity. I know that all three bid cities have a long and proud history of hosting multi-sport events and no matter what the final decision, B.C. will be well represented in hosting the nation in 2015.”
The next phase in the bid process is to complete a technical review of local sport, non-sport, and accommodation venues by October 2, 2009. The final recommendation from the Canada Games Board of Directors will be delivered to the Province of British Columbia and then announced publicly by the
Council and the Province in October 2010.
The Canada Games Winter Games involve over 3,400 athletes in 17 sports, 450 coaches, 230 managers and a variety of artisans. Games athletes come from over 800 communities across Canada. The event receives extensive television, newspaper and radio coverage from across Canada.
