Firefighters Take Precautions Near Lava Canyon

Williams Lake, B.C.  – Structure Protection Units are scheduled to be installed in the Scum Lake area located southeast of the Lava Canyon Fire.  This is a precautionary measure due to the weather forecast for the next few days.  Currently it is predicting variable winds, chance of lightning on Thursday and a cold front moving in on Friday.

The Lava Canyon Fire is located in the Brittany Triangle 15 kilometres southwest of Alexis Creek.  It is estimated to be at 13941 hectares.  The increased area is due to a burn off on August 16, 2009.

Today there are 73 firefighters, 7 helicopters, 11 pieces of heavy equipment and 15 support staff working on this fire. 

The Incident Management Team’s main priority is to provide safety to all responders and the general public.
