Prince George, B.C.- You could call it “Cougars Idol” a six part series on 6 rookies trying to   make a WHL team. That is the focus of a television production called “The Rookies” underway in Prince George.
A crew of 8 from RAT films of Montreal, is in Prince George following 6 rookies from their first day at Cougars’ training camp ( today)to opening night. The crew will have unprecedented access to scouts,   managers, players, you name it, as they chronicle the stories of six   young players who want to make the league. At times, the players will be wearing a microphone so viewers can hear what’s being said on the ice, in the dressing room, on the bus, and on the bench.
The production crew will travel with the team to a tournament in Everett Washington and come  back with the team for the home opener on September 18th.
Why Prince George? “This place has a very special feeling to it” says Rat Films Producer Alex Taillon, “We did a similar series in Chicoutami, and Prince George has a lot of pride, the team must travel a  lot to play others. Our crew is very excited to be here, “ says Taillon  “We could feel the energy as we started to get closer to Prince George.”
Cougars’ Vice President Brandi Brodsky is hopeful the City can show its support for the team and the production on opening night.   “Remember the feeling in the building when we did the Mastercard commercial? It would be great if we could create that kind of feeling again” says Brodsky.  The Cougars will be giving away lots of tickets to elementary school students to make sure the seats are full for opening night. “This is really important not only for the team, but we have a chance to   showcase the whole City. I am really hoping the fans and residents of the City will get behind this.”
The series will be aired on Rogers Sportsnet in March of next year.

Very cool. Now hopefully they'll get a big win on opening night so that some of this artificially-large crowd will want to come back as paying customers.
Hmmmm, I wonder if the Blue Jays would like this production.... how about the Detroit Lions.
The organisation made a substantial contribution to rat films to come out here.
"The organisation made a substantial contribution to rat films to come out here."

If that's true, it's probably in hopes that it'll get some other cities interested in having the Cougars move there.
lmorge,

unless you have evidence, you may want to explore bc's libel laws before posting defamatory comments.
Excelleent news! I will now plan to attend opening night. However, we just have to get rid of Brodsky!! I hear that Brodsky has gone begging to the city to renegotiate (a year early) his Multiplex rent, and get it reduced to alomost nothing. Of course, he is using the old worn out arguement that there are a couple of towns in other areas that would love to have the Cougars, and would not charge any rent whatsoever.

Sack Brodsky, keep the Cougars!
The City has been pretty quiet about the new contract, at least I havent seen anything on it. In any event they lost money on the old and and will probably lose more on the new one.

There are a number of problems with the Cougers, not the least of which is how they have played the last few years. The main problem is, is that there are not enough fans in this town to support the Spruce Kings, Cougers, and of course the Casino.

You would have to be a pretty dedicated hockey fan to attend 36 games for the season. God I couldnt imagine sitting and watching 36 Hockey games, especially with all that loud music and the attendent BS.

This team averaged 2500 fans per game last year, I suspect that 500 of the tickets were Corporate and the seats remained em;pty, so we could probably say that they averaged 2200 fans per game at best. A number of business's are not buying tickets this year because they had problems getting people to use them.

Its a tough road ahead.
