August Warmer and Drier Than Normal

Prince George, B.C. - The summer of 2009 will go in the record books as one of the best exprienced in Prince George. Iin his monthly reort, Environment canada Meteorologist Jim Steele says August carried on the warm, dry trend that had been set by July, despite a four day slip into cooler temps fro the 8th through the 11th.
Here is his full monthly report:
August 2009 The month continued the trend carried over from July, remaining basically very warm and dry. A bit of a slip occurred between the 8th and 11th with a cooler unsettled period, bringing 16 mm of rainfall in the 4 day period. Another damp and somewhat cool period was recorded between the 20th and 23rd with 13.1 mm of rainfall. The month ended with a week of very warm and drying conditions.
In the end, the month was in the above normal range for temperatures and below normal for precipitation.
Temperatures
- Average daily high of 23.6 was above the normal of 21.7 degrees C.
- Average daily low of 8.5 was above the normal of 7.9 degrees C.
- Mean temperature of 16.1 was above the normal 14.8 degrees C.
- Warmest Day on the 1st with a maximum temperature of 31.0 degrees
- Coolest day on the 26th with an overnight minimum of 1.3 degrees
Precipitation
- Total precipitation of 32.1 mm was below the normal of 51.1 mm.
- Measurable precipitation on 11 days below the normal of 13 days
- Greatest rainfall one day 14.2 mm on the 10th
