Additional Resources Arrive to Battle Lava Canyon Fire

ALEXIS CREEK, B.C.  – Today, containment efforts will continue on the 54, 977 hectare Lava Canyon Fire with various resources and personnel arriving to assist with fire suppression efforts. 

The Office of the Fire Commissioner has obtained structural protection apparatus, and fire fighters, from throughout the Cariboo.  Their primary function is to provide support to the sprinkler protection units, which includes the maintenance and operation of these units.  Approximately 100 structures are currently under sprinkler protection.   

Additional wildland firefighters are also expected to arrive over the next couple of days.

The Scum Lake area remains under evacuation order and the Newton-Whitewater Road remains closed by the Ministry of Transportation. Informational traffic control stations are still in place in the Scum Lake area. For more information regarding evacuations, please contact the Cariboo Regional District at 250-392-4283.
