CLINTON – Firefighters are taking advantage of cool and damp weather as they continue to mop up hotspots on the Kelly Creek fire.
The weather forecast offers cool, cloudy and continuing damp conditions through the weekend as firefighters work further inside the fire to extinguish smoldering hotspots. There is still smoke visible inside the fire perimeter, but the populated areas on the south and west flanks are now relatively smoke free.
The Kelly Creek fire is 19,525 hectares and that figure hasn’t changed since the burn off operations on September 2nd. The fire is 40% contained with 109 firefighters, 10 helicopters and 31 pieces of heavy equipment. Structural Protection Units are being removed from homes along the Hooke Road, Isadore Road, and Big Bar Road.
The area surrounding the Kelly Creek wildfire will remain closed to public access. This Restricted Area Order is in place to ensure fire personnel and public safety.
