Clinton, B.C.- Since August 19, 2009 the BC Forest Service on the Kelly Creek fire has incurred more than 35,000 person-hours of fire fighting work with only 36 person-hours attributed to time loss injuries.

With mop up and direct attack fire control operations under way on the Kelly Creek fire, fire crew supervisors and safety specialists are giving extra attention to Danger Tree Assessments in all areas where firefighters are working.

The weather in the south Cariboo is forecasted to become warmer and drier starting tomorrow and extending into next week.   Kelly Creek firefighters are working to extend the area of containment and to extinguish open flames and hotspots adjacent to fireguards and in the vicinity of roads and structures.

Initial Attack fire crews are also establishing helipads on isolated sections of the north flank of the fire.  These helipads will allow transport of firefighters and equipment to directly attack open flames and hotspots on northern areas of the fire not directly accessible from roads.

The Kelly Creek fire area remains at 19,525 hectares with estimated 40% containment. Today there are 124 firefighters, five helicopters and 14 heavy equipment units engaged in fire control operations.

The area surrounding the Kelly Creek wildfire will remain closed to public access. This Restricted Area Order is in place to ensure fire personnel and public safety.
