Prince George ,B.C. -  B.C.’s new Chief Justice of B.C.’s Supreme Court has a Prince George connection.

The new Chief Justice, Robert Bauman, was an associate and partner with the Prince George law firm Wilson, King and Company from 1975 to 1977.

He then became a partner in Wilson, Bauman in Kelowna, and joined Bull Housser and Tupper in Vancouver in 1982.

He was appointed to the B.C. Supreme Court in 1996  where he served until last year when he was appointed to the B.C. Court of Appeal.

Justice Bauman’s name made the headlines in the third trial of Kelly Ellard, the teen from Victoria who was convicted of killing   Reena Virk in the fall of 1997. The B.C. Court of appeal ruled Judge Bauman hadn’t given the jury the right instructions on controversial testimony. The Court of appeal ordered a fourth trial.   That order was overturned by the Supreme Court of Canada which ruled that while Bauman had erred, the error would not have affected the verdict.

Justice Bauman is taking over the role as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of B.C., replacing  Donald Brenner who recently announced his retirement.

Another 250,000 or so down the drain for a cushy government position. Tell him to retire his old butt, go home and bounce his grand children on his knee. He doesn't need the money and that's for damn sure after 40 years of legally robbing everyone.
He was an associate with a law firm in Prince George for 2 years back in 1975-77 and then went to Kelowna.

This was 32 years ago. Why are we making a connection to Prince George??? Does this make us feel good??? Are we so back woodsy that we have to grasp every possible situation to make ourselves important.

Who appoints these guys anyway? I guess there was nowhere else to send him. Maybe he's been exiled??

I have to agree this is a pretty weak connection. Does he even remember where Prince George is after all these years?
