The Historic Town of Barkerville was bustling on day one of its Christmas openings

As has been the case for more than 20-years now, Barkerville was open for business yesterday...

Manager Robin Sharpe says Barkerville opens for two weekends prior to Christmas to give visitors a sense of what the holiday season was like for pioneers and gold minors in the 1880's and 1890's.

Yesterday's mild weather meant for a good turn-out.  Those venturing into Barkerville found Christmas carollers on-site and a number of the businesses open, with unique 'period' gifts.

The Cameron and Ames Blacksmith Shop was in operation.

And visitors could wander through both the Gold Mining Museum and the Chinese Museum.

A horse-drawn sleigh ride was the main attraction for many in attendance.  As were the numerous jars of candy in Mason & Daly's General Store.

The site is open today until 4pm and will have a similar schedule of activities next weekend from 11am until 4pm next weekend.
