Prince George, B.C. – The party plans for the Olympic Torch Celebrations for Prince George are  being put in place.

In its update to City Council, the Olympic Torch Task Force plans a family friendly, non alcoholic, outdoor event from 6-8 p.m. at Exhibition Park on Friday, January 29th. "We'll light the cauldron  in Prince George and have some special events planned" says Committee co-chair, Councilor Sherri Green.

Banners have been ordered for Exhibition Park, but more could be ordered.  The extra banners would line  the  torch route, which has not yet been disclosed.

There are also plans for a post torch event. The organizing committee is looking at a winter carnival that would offer snow golf, snow bowling, and snow beach volleyball.

While the City has already earmarked $35 thousand dollars for the torch celebration, the committee believes the events will cost far less.  The Province has already announced Prince George will receive $40 thousand dollars for the celebrations.

Part of the funds from the Provincial government will be used to pay for the carnival events.

Shiver me timbers,I'm all aquiver with delight at this astoundingly exciting news.
WOW! an olympic torch task force!
What will they think of next? Another lame idea to try and get the people who are funding the olympics to buy into their crazy schemes? We, who are overcome with joy at the prospect of hosting the winter olympics in our province wish to thank you for the privelege of carrying the debt for this egotistical photo opportunity for the next two generations. Campbell & co. will never be forgotten.
