Friday to be Brett Connolly Day in P.G.

Prince George, B.C.- Friday September 18^th won’t be just the opening day of the Prince George Cougars season, it will be an extra special day for Cougars’ Brett Connolly.

Prince George Mayor Dan Rogers has officially declared Friday September 18^th as Brett Connolly day in Prince George.

The declaration made to recognize Connolly’s achievement as being named Canada’s top Rookie of the year for the ’08-’09 season. The Proclamation reads: “Whereas this accomplishment is rarely achieved and provides excellent role modeling for young athletes, and challenges all of us to be better at whatever we have a passion for, therefore, I Dan Rogers, Mayor of Prince George, do hereby proclaim September 18^th, 2009 as Brett Connolly Day in the City of Prince George.”

The 6’2” left winger accepted the proclamation, and said he would see what he could do about celebrating the day by scoring a hat trick at the season opener at CN Centre that night when the Cougars welcome the Spokane Chiefs.

Yeah. Hockey players a role model. If spitting,swearing and fighting is the coveted occupation. I think the CASH is the role model.

I think this was a great idea. Now I wish that the City Council would start recognizing the other people that add so much to our community. There are exceptional business men and women as well as the many volunteers.
I no we have had a volunteers day but how about recognizing some individuals. That's my opinion!

Yeah, if the city recognized business owners in the same fashion, there would be an article on here and several sarcastic comments, much like many of the articles on here.

A lot of kids (especially young hockey players) look up to the Cougars, whether you like it or not.

As for cash, 97% of them don't ever make enough out of the game to live on after their WHL careers are over. Clearly supertech is someone who doesn't watch or follow hockey.

Prince George should be very proud to have Brett on their team and in this city. I think Don Hay would love him in Vancouver after listening to him praise Brett last year!
