Alexis Creek, B.C.-  Two structure protection units have arrived on the Lava Canyon Fire.

The structure protection units were deployed to this fire as a result of the fire’s growth towards structures on the weekend.  Structure protection specialists will assess the structures and implement a plan to protect homes in the Bayliff Road alert area. An Evacuation Alert remains in place for properties in the Bayliff Road area.

Fire suppression operations are now 24 hours in order to work to contain the remaining uncontained portion of the fire.

A successful burn off was completed on the west flank of the fire yesterday, burning an area of approximately 300 hectares. In order to remove fuel between the containment lines and the fire perimeters, crews will continue to burn off pockets of unburnt fuel when conditions permit.

The fire is currently 64,500 hectares in size and is 90 percent contained. The decrease in the containment is due to the fire growth on Saturday. Resources working on this fire include 312 firefighters as well as 27 pieces of heavy equipment, 10 helicopters and 38 support staff.
