Fall Arrives This Afternoon, and Community Garden Will be Harvested

Prince George, B.C.- Fall officially arrives at 2:18 this afternoon, and with the arrival of fall, comes the harvest at the Downtown Community Garden.
While most of the produce that has been planted in the above ground planters at the 7th and Victoria lot in downtown Prince George will be harvested this afternoon, Daniel Wingham of Integris Union was at the site on the weekend, harvesting the produce from the planters sponsored by Integris Credit Union.
“We got far more tomatoes than we had expected” says Wingham. In all, the Integris plots produced 4-5 flats ( beer flats) of tomatoes, as well as squash, zucchini, carrots turnips and beets. A full 9 flats of produce that will be donated to the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
There are several other planters yet to be harvested, and that will happen this afternoon at 3:30. Produce from the plots sponsored by the Central Interior Native Health Society will be going to the Association Advocating for Women and Children.
The Downtown Community garden was made possible by a $5,000 grant from the City of Prince George and a $5,000 donation from Integris Credit Union. This was the first year for the project which is aimed at making better use of vacant lands in the downtown area.
