Hot Spots Identified in Lava Canyon Fire Perimeter

ALEXIS CREEK – An infrared scan performed on the Lava Canyon fire perimeter has revealed 11 hot spots.

Firefighting crews today will locate and extinguish the hot spots, using the coordinates determined by the scan.

Based on current weather forecasts, fire behaviour experts are not expecting a significant increase in fire activity. Cooler weather and small amounts of precipitation are forecasted for the weekend and early next week.

Crews have completed mop-up on many areas of the fire, and firefighting equipment is being removed from those areas. Ground and air patrols will continue on all areas of the fire to ensure there are no remaining hot spots or flare-ups.

The Lava Canyon Fire is 66, 719 hectares, or 667 km2, in size and is 100 percent contained. On site today are 153 firefighters, four pieces of heavy equipment, three helicopters and 58 support staff.

Public access to the area surrounding the Lava Canyon wildfire is restricted, and road blocks remain in place.
