Man Dies Of Gun Shot In Stand Off At Hazelton

Hazelton BC. – One man is dead; another has been taken into custody following what police describe as a standoff in a remote area about 50 kilometres north of Hazelton BC.

Police say that at about 10 Saturday morning, the North District Emergency Response Team along with a police dog attempted to apprehend a male wanted on five criminal code warrants.

Police had been informed that the man was armed and living in the remote area with another man.

During the arrest police say the suspect sustained a gunshot wound and was taken to Hazelton hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

No police officers were injured during the incident. An investigation into the death will be headed by an inspector from the Delta Police force. In addition, a member of the Public Complaints Commission of the RCMP has been called to act as an independent observer.
