Quesnel, B.C.– Quesnel Mayor Mary Sjostrom will return to the Union of British Columbia Municipalities Board, this time as Third Vice-President. Sjostrom has served five years on the Board, two as the North Central Municipal Association president and three as director-at-large.
“I’m honoured to have been elected to the Board by my peers in local government from across the province,” said Sjostrom. “Being on the Board provides me the opportunity to meet more often with senior government officials. It also helps me keep Quesnel City Council and our residents in the loop regarding breaking news and items of interest or concern at the provincial level. There’s a definite advantage for Quesnel to be represented at the UBCM Board.”
Sjostrom was the Chair of the Community Economic Development Committee, a member of the Resolutions Committee and provided interim support on the President Committee during her last year on the UBCM Board. In previous years she has held a number of positions through the Board, including: Convention Committee vice-chair; 2008 Resolutions Committee member; Tourism Advisory Committee chair; Community Safety Committee member; and Small Communities Policing Task Force member.
