Mackenzie, B.C.- The final phase of a $3-million improvement project to ease congestion and increase safety is now complete along Highway 97 at Wright Creek, 25 km north of Prince George, announced Prince George-Mackenzie MLA Pat Bell.

“This paving is the final piece of a project that’s been constructed over the past three months using local contractors and local hired equipment,” says Bell. “The new passing lane will increase traffic flow and safety by giving motorists a safe opportunity to pass slower-moving trucks and recreational vehicles on the uphill grade.”

Dawson Construction Ltd. was awarded a $750,000 contract to carry out the final paving phase of the project.

Wow! Must be a slow day when Pat Bell has to brag about a passing lane! Welldone! Mr. Bell - we could not have done it without you.
yes he even seems to takes credit for stuff he had nothing to do with....I guess he doesn't have much to do with his own job....still see lots of dead beetle kill..not much lumber is moving...so I guess he must be too busy with media ops.
My opinion of course...heaven forbid that I would slam a liberal...lol
Well it's great reading positive news from up there for a change! Thank god we have a govenment that does something.... Who is going to buy our lumber? Cant keep milling it at a loss....
People sure can find some strange things to complain about.
I'm not complaining but---why in hell would you go to all that trouble to make it 3 lanes when for a few dollars more you could make it four? Down the road with inflation and rising cost of everything, it's going to cost 3 times that to make the fourth lane; which is needed now.
I heard that it was a contractor from the Island? I think the traffic control was.
I was just saying; "I did not know that Dawson Construction, CMS, and LB Paving were local firms" Someone replied "it depends on how you define local" I am not complaining about the fact that companies and employees from other towns did the work, local firms bid on the two jobs, and did not have the lowest price, that's the way it goes. It is the blah blah blah from the always moving lips of hamburger Pattie that annoys me. As others have mentioned, the highway is not even within his portfolio of responsibilities. On a positive note, it is nice to have the extra lane, and the road will be just a little safer with it, especially in the winter.
metalman.
Whether Highways is in a local MLA's portfolio or not, announcements of such projects are typically done by the riding's MLAs and, when the project is large enough and the minister responsible is available, by both.

Hit on him if you want, but protocol is protocol no matter who is in power.
Dawson is Kamloops based it appears ...

Looks like CMS refers to CMS Focus, am engineering conglomerate from Alberta whose BC head office is in Victoria.

LB paving is from Smithers ...

So, all in all it appears to be a normal highways project with companies from all over the province who are set up to work throughout the province providing the work, using primarily local materials due to the nature of the construction.
Pat Bell is likely referring to subtrades when speaking about "local". Remember, Pat Bell is not a construction expert. Perhaps he could pass on his proposed words to someone who is more into the details and does know.
