Prince George, B.C.- In order to understand the flu shot plan this year, Chief Public Health Officer for Northern Health, Dr. William Osei says you have to think about “2s” “There are two vaccines, two flus and two populations” says Osei.
Anyone 65 and older or in a care home will receive the regular, seasonal, flu shot effective October 13th. The second group of population, those under 65 will wait for their H1N1 flu shots when the vaccine is available in November.
Because the H1N1 flu has been more prevalent among the young, they will be first on the list for that vaccine, seniors will be last on the list.
Dr.Osei says your turn for the flu shot can be remembered by this:
October is for Old people, November is for New or young people.
Dr. Osei says the impact of H1N1 can be minimized if people practice good health habits, like eating nutritious foods, keeping active, drinking plenty of fluids, stay in home if they feel sick, covering their mouth when they cough, washing their hands “if you do these things, you will be fine.”

Here is where the problem is... A lot of people CAN NOT AFFORD to miss even one day of work! So they dont! Just stand in a public place a watch people. 9 out of 10 dont even attempt to cover their mouths or their nose. And if they do its with their hands and then they happily go about their business touching everything in sight. Their are a lot of dirty people out there who could care less about the health of others. I for one do not trust that everyone is going to follow the above advice.
