Prince George, B.C. – Today is a day the Faulkner family has dreaded for 6 years. Today is the day the man who killed their daughter walks out of prison.
Speaking on the Meisner program on CFISFM, Rick Faulkner says he knew this day would come, but “it has come very fast”.
Rick’s daughter Leah was strangled and was left to choke to death on her own vomit in February of 2002, her body dumped in a creek at West Lake Provincial Park. At the time, Neudorf told investigators she had packed up and left. It would be three weeks before her body would be found.
Tyler Neudorf was initially charged with second degree murder, but through plea bargaining, entered a guilty plea to the lesser charge of manslaughter. While initially sentenced to 8 years, Neudorf received time off for time spent in custody, and a successful appeal meant Neudorf spent 6 years in jail.
At a Parole Board hearing 2 years ago, the Parole Board released information that Neudorf laughed about his light sentence, he admitted to having thought about killing his own parents, he admitted to abusing Lea Faulkner and her son, and that the thought of killing “excited” him.
Rick Faulkner says the system let him down, “Every time you talk to different people you get a run around “ and that attempts to get information were brushed off with “She (his daughter) was an adult.”
Leah’s parents have raised her son, who as it turns out, was also a victim of Neudorf’s. The Parole Board submission of two years ago indicates Neudorf had broken the child’s arm and submits that Neudorf then choked Leah because she was going to turn him in for abusing the boy.
“This has been very hard on our family, and our grandson is now of the age where he will hear things” says Rick Faulkner who fears for the safety of his family. “The Corrections Centre will advise the RCMP of where he goes when he leaves jail, but there has been nothing to let us know where he goes.”
Having served his full sentence, Neudorf will have 48 hours to report to a parole officer.
