Wow..it's sure a good thing the crime rate is declinig like we are told!
I am sure our streets will be safe soon!
Yeah I remember sirens blaring. They only people that hang out there at that hour is the crack heads. I know who they are. 30 year old male eh. I have an idea who it is. To me less of them on the street the better.
Crime declining ya sure, who do the authorities take us for, idiots. These are the same people that get away for murder telling us crime is down.
Another example of why you should not go downtown after dark. Not sure if is relevent, but last Wednesday would have been welfare wednesday. The hijinks from that day usually spill into the week end. I would have hoped that there would be a stronger police presence on welfare wednesday week end. Maybe there is????

Probably what the three suspects thought as well.
"I would have hoped that there would be a stronger police presence on welfare wednesday week end. Maybe there is????"

The three got arrested, didn't they? What more do you expect. They have to wait for the cirme to happen.

Obviously the Downtown unit is already at work.
it wasn't welfare weekend, that was last weekend.

What I have to say now has nothing to do with this stiry, but please bare with me. Last night, early this morning, there was a collision between a RCMP vehicle and a person on a bicycle. It took place at the intersection of Ross Cresent and Melville Street. When I went by, the ambulance was not there yet. However, the bicycle was well planted under the COP car.

Is this not news worthy???? No mention of it today, how come??? Just wondering! Is this so the cops can get their DUCKS in a row??? Hmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!!!!!!!!!
Did you see the bicycle rider? I gather if you were expecting to see an ambulance, you must have.

It most certainly would be newsworthy if the bike rider was injured.
There was a bicycle jambed under a police cruiser, and there were about 4 other cruisers attending. I could hear the sounds of more sirens. (probably the ambulance)I don't want to say anymore than that at this time, other than, there was a collision between a cop car and a bicycle as I stated, at the intersection of Ross Crescent and Melville Street. I would estimate it was around midnight, according to my trip sheet.
One more thing Gus, if the bike is jambed under the front of a police cruiser (as I stated), I would assume that the rider was injured!! Just an assumption, maybe it wasn't news worthy after all. The person on the bicycle got hit so hard, they flew over a few houses, and walked away!!!

It may be like the Ian Bush case, they rear end this individual, and will call it self deffence!!

And the JUSTICE WHEEL goes around and around and around!!
Maybe now they will start to inforce lights and reflectors on bikes. If they are useing the roads it should be mandatory.

(6) A cycle operated on a highway between 1/2 hour after sunset and 1/2 hour before sunrise must have the following equipment:

(a) a lighted lamp mounted on the front and under normal atmospheric conditions capable of displaying a white light visible at least 150 m in the direction the cycle is pointed;

(b) a red reflector of a make or design approved by the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia for the purposes of this section;

(c) a lighted lamp, mounted and visible to the rear, displaying a red light.
first of all wrinkledawg do you cycle. Do you use a bike as a main way of getting around?
To me let them kills themselves. I with throw them a pack of blades and a glass of water.
waste of time to even report about it. Kill yourselves. The blades the water
Did you see the ??? marks Gus?

cldt,,, whats does me driveing a bike have to do with it. I have seen these people rideing at night and the cops have drove right on past them.these same people think they have the right of way no matter what.
Last time I looked the law applied to everyone thats on the road. You have a problem with that?
oh the law applies equally to all. It just is not enforced equally. The police have a choice, enforce every infraction they observe, or chase bigger fish.
An automobile driver must have a license, a cyclist does not.
To get a driver's license, one must be of an approved age AND be physically and mentally fit to drive. A cyclist only needs to get wheels under bum.
Charge a motorist with an offense and it goes through the courts. Charge an unlicensed cyclist who may or may not have any ID and no vehicle registration, see how far that goes in court.

Factor in the police paper chase, and it is hardly worth noting a cyclist committing an offense unless it causes injury or causes a motor vehicle incident.

Cyclists do not think they have the right of way no matter what. They assertively take their right of way and their intended path because they have been the victim of so many careless and oblivious motor vehicle operators.

It's the same game from different sides. Motorist scream dumb cyclists, cyclists scream dumb drivers. Both are right. IMO the motorists need to give some of the roadway and be more considerate. This is a notorious problem with motor cyclists as well. The big difference is the avid cyclist generally wear high visibility apparel, motor bikers wear black. I have noticed this year more motor bike apparel in the high visibility style. It is the casual cyclists or "necessary due to no license" cyclists that are oblivious to being visible and riding in a safe manner.

Could it be that this incident is because the patrol car involved was trying to apprehend one of those night raiders and the raider's transportation was a bicycle, maybe even a stolen one? Four other cars on scene for a motorist and cyclist incident seems a little much.
"Hi viz" motorcycle apparel has been available for years, most don't wear it due to fashion considerations. Black is just 'so bad' or maybe it's traditional.
Food for thought.
All those not surrounded by a cage, in other words on two or three wheels, must as a matter of survival ride defensively, and that does not mean a hip check to the passenger door of that Super Duty, it means keep your orbs peeled, assume the other vehicles cannot see you, for they WILL change lanes right over top of you, they WILL turn left in front of you even though they appear to be making eye contact. Worst of all is the red light runners..... Oh, am I spouting off again? sorry.

Opinion250 has checked the story out and can't find no incident like this, other than a man stopped with a bunch of cans in a bag around the same time.
Police don't have anything.

Ben Meisner
Speaking of crime, this can't wait til Friday. I was just leaving the Stupidstore this afternoon when this lady asks me if I'm from here. I said yes. She then asked how much does it cost for gas to Quesnel? She then said someone in the Stupidstore parking lot siphoned all her gas. And the Mounties just left. Poor baby. She needed twenty bucks to buy gas to get to Quesnel. I wished her luck. The name is Tucker, not Sucker. First off syphoning gas in a busy parking lot on a sunny afternoon? No one stopped or questioned the siphoners? How come she didn't know how much it cost for gas to Quesnel? Then again I wondered why the Mounties would even bother to respond to a call about siphoned gas? It's a scam, folks. Wise up. I didn't have the heart to give her twenty bucks. But I was nice and I wished her luck. Looking back, I should've asked to see the Mounties business card he left. They do that. Then maybe I would offer to buy her twenty bucks worth of gas. But then again, maybe next time. IF I have twenty bucks to spare.
So Ben can't get anything on this about 17 hours after a scene Taxi observed.

At least three possibilities:

1. the report has not been filed yet

2. the police are hiding something as Taxi suggests.

3. the bike was left on the road and the police did not see it

4. the police were chasing a bike rider; the rider jumped off the bike, leaving the cop car to drive over it while the rider ran off into the bushes

I think with the number of police cars attending, a search and chase scenario is quiet realistic. Sirens would help to wake up the neighbourhood as a warning as well as to cause the fugitive to get scared and misjudge a fleeing tactic.

It will be interesting to hear what happened.
there was no injury
Harbinger .... similar incidents have happend to me over the last year or so. The real gold diggers are in suburbia, not downtown.

They know where the money is.
I choose option 4.
there were several of our taxi's that saw the results of what ever went down at Ross Crescent and Melville Street. I should have taken some pictures. Next time I will.

It's just like the incident a couple of weeks ago at 15th Ave. and the by-pass. A police cruiser heading north on East Central Street, tried to jump over the concrete meridian that divides 15th Avenue down the middle. AND, there is a big checker board there, warning drivers that there is a concrete divider there. There was no word of this on the news either. One of my colleague's has pictures of this one.

I say "COVER UP" (in both cases)
taxinapothole you're such a loser seriously you have been on the board for years now commenting on every post possible but come on now man seriously get a girl friend and get a real job and stop driving scum bags around in your taxi for the rest of your life..just a suggestion have a good day sir
corruption, thanks for that comment. I will do what ever I like, when I like. I don't break the law!! I guess you have never taken a taxi?? Of course not, because that would make you a scum bag. Don't judge IDIOT, or you will be judged!
That is an interesting one Loki. Interesting because of two things.

1. the policeman has no bell on his horse.

2. Calgary has the same law about bells on bicycles. They were giving out tickets left right and centre. The program cost lots of money with court cases and dates plus police to actually hand out the tickets and getting a bad image in the community because of it.

Thee new manager took a different tact. He figured the primary objective was to get bells on bicycles not to give out tickets or to get a negative image of the police out there.

So, they bought bicycle bells, gave them to the patrol officers. When they saw someone without a bell, they gave them a free bell with a bit of a lecture that they have to put it on their bike and use it.

Sometimes one has to look at what the key objectives are and determine how best to accomplish those. Bureaucratic enforcement is generally the last resort.
