LOL, you guys are funny. I'm happy too. It's Friday & it's payday & a long weekend. Couldn't get better! Happy B'day scruffy!
Happy joy joy. All is good at La la land.

Have a great day everyone.

I think some Turkeys are gonna be eaten this weekend. Yummy yummy in my tummy.
Notice to people heading towards Hixon....DONT! They are holding up traffic for an hour and a half or more each way. Happened to 2 families I know on Wednesday. That MUST be against the LAW, I mean that is totally rediculous to wait that long. They knew they were replacing a bridge, surely they knew how to do it and this in NOT acceptable. The line ups were so bad it took you 3 or 4 stop and goes on the PG side, so hurry up and wait people!
Young Gordy lived in Vancouver and bought a donkey from a farmer for $100.

The farmer agreed to deliver the donkey the next day. The next day he drove up saying, 'Sorry son, but I have some bad news, the donkey died.'

Gordy replied,? Well, then just give me my money back.'

The farmer said, 'Can't do that. I went and spent it already.'

Gordy said, 'Ok, then, just bring me the dead donkey.'

The farmer asked, 'What ya gonna do with a dead donkey?

Gordy said, 'I'm going to raffle him off.'

The farmer said, 'You can't raffle off a dead donkey!'

Gordy said, 'Sure I can, I just won't tell anybody he's dead.'

A month later, the farmer met up with Gordy and asked, 'What happened with that dead donkey?'

Gordy said, 'I raffled him off. I sold 500 tickets at $2 each and I made a profit of $898.'

The farmer said, 'Didn't anyone complain?'

Gordy said, 'Just the guy who won, so I gave him his $2 back.'

Gordy now works for the government.
LOL @ Loki

While its funny its hardly insightful. The only people that waste more time and energy than politicians are people that bash politicians.

It really all comes down to political ideology. In BC that leaves 2 parties:

NDP = slightly to the right of communists and socialists.

Liberals = free enterprise.

Greatest communists/socialist nations of all time:
USSR - long gone
China - gone free enterprise
Cuba - Cubans think you are god if you give them a bar of soap

Greatest free enterprise nations/regions:
North America - highest standard of living in the world PERIOD
Western Europe - along with Japan pretty damn close to North America

I think that a more intelligent argument than NDP vs Liberals is a discussion about political ideology.
Political Parties in British Columbia

* Advocational International Democratic Party of British Columbia

* The Alternative Party

* The Annexation Party of British Columbia

* BC NDP

* BC Refederation Party

* BC Youth Coalition

* British Columbia Citizens Alliance Now

* British Columbia Conservative Party

* British Columbia Democratic Futures Party

* British Columbia Labour Party

* British Columbia Liberal Party

* British Columbia Libertarian Party

* British Columbia Marijuana Party

* British Columbia Party

* British Columbia Patriot Party

* British Columbia Social Credit Party

* British Columbia Unity Party

* Canadian Alliance Party of British Columbia

It was not meant to be insightful or thought provoking. It was intended to be amusing, like your comments.
I count more than 2 parties in BC.
As to party ideology, not one of the traditional or historical parties has maintained it ideology. They all flip flop in the political wind.

A lay definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over again expecting a different result. With our political system, we still have voters voting along party lines. They will only vote for their party regardless of the candidate. Now how dumb is that. Every party has messed over the voters in one way or another to varying degrees. My proposed solution: a grass roots movement to strongly encourage voters to vote for independents only. DO NOT VOTE FOR ANY PARTY MEMBER!

I have seen it stated on this site that the MLA's must vote in the house along party lines and that the party line is determined by the party leader. If a party member does not vote as directed, there are repercussions. By having a house of independents, they would have to serve their constituents rather than the party.

It would also make it more challenging for lobbyists. It would cost them much more as it would no longer be a matter of an excessive donation to the party, but many donations to many MLA's.

IMO We need to break the party system.
Just for your edification "born in BC"

The continent of North America consists of the following countries:
Antigua and Barbuda
Bahamas
Barbados
Belize
Canada
Costa Rica
Cuba
Dominica
Dominican Rep.
El Salvador
Grenada
Guatemala
Haiti
Honduras
Jamaica
Mexico
Nicaragua
Panama
St. Kitts & Nevis
St. Lucia
St. Vincent and the Grenadines
Trindad and Tobago
United States

The population is just over 500 million with the population of the USA and Canda making up just over 60% of that.

Start factoring in the poor countries, and there might be a question of whether Europe or North America is the better off of the two continents.

I think the continent that wins the battle is Astralia/Oceania

We can discuss the matter of right and left wing governments of the various countries on those three continents as well if you are up to it. :-)
Break the party system just before a long party weekend?

If I can't get to my parties, I will me miserable all weekend.
Why can't the rubes that wash 500lbs of mud & crap off their pos trucks at the coin wash rinse it down the drain when they're done. Have a little respect for others.
Loki,

Are you sure that guy worked for govt.? I'm pretty sure he would have robbed the money from people to give to his "friends" to buy tickets, then after the money came in, called for a consultant report awarded to the farmer on how to determine if the donkey was indeed dead, then split the remaining profit with donkey breeders......

You get the idea........

Than you Gus for giving BIB both a political science and geography lesson.
Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize. Can you believe it?

He hasn't really done anything yet, but he was smart enough to point that out in his acceptance statement.
Hate to break it to ya Gus, but most of those countries are South or Central America.
Wow gus. Honestly thats the dumbest things I have ever read. North America, Central America and South America are all very different regions. That being said you taught me 2 things today, (1) how dumb people can be even though they present themselves as quite smart and (2) what edification means, because I had to look it up.

Loki
Saying I was laughing at you was not accurate so I apologize because I really did LOL @ the joke. It is hilarious.

Seriously there are 2 parties that matter and we all know it. And those 2 parties are clearly alligned with 2 different segments of the poplulation. However your ability to google BC political parties is very impressive.
"Than(k) you Gus for giving BIB both a political science and geography lesson."

Then there is the guy who thought that I got schooled. Between loki's riddle, gus and then this guy i havent laughed so hard in a long time.

But seriously while I think that a body made up entirely of independents is a interesting idea I bet this is how it all started way back when. Soon people realized that to get things done you had to make deals with others of similar ideology, and thats how parties were created. So in the end we would probably just end up in the same place.

Another example of how a 2 party system is probably the best is taking place in the Federal government right now. Two many different voices creates a government with no clear vision and a limited ability to implement policy. Does anyone think that the current show in Ottawa is a good thing?
Happy Birthday Scruffy!
I wonder if Obama has to give his prize back if he doesn't accomplish any of the things he got that award for.
It is nice to see By-Law Services upholding their by-laws.
gus:"I think the continent that wins the battle is Astralia/Oceania."

Couldn't find Astralia, not even with Google Earth.

Drats!
Born in BC ....

I bring this as my evidence of what constitutes the continents of the world.
http://www.worldatlas.com/cntycont.htm

If you choose to identify a region by using the term (in this case North America) that is also used to name a continent, then you really ought to define what you mean by the region you call "North America".

BTW, a lot of people make the mistake of calling the region of Central America a continent.

And I made the mistake of not including Greenland in the list I copied.

Here is a good overview of some of the issues of why there are at most 7 continents and that some in the world have as few as 5 they refer to.

https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/xx.html

From the above link, a relatively good backgrounder to continents - 7, 6, or 5?

"The land portion is generally divided into several, large, discrete landmasses termed continents. Depending on the convention used, the number of continents can vary from five to seven.

The most common classification recognizes seven, which are (from largest to smallest): Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Antarctica, Europe, and Australia. Asia and Europe are sometimes lumped together into a Eurasian continent resulting in six continents.

Alternatively, North and South America are sometimes grouped as simply the Americas, resulting in a continent total of six (or five, if the Eurasia designation is used).

North America is commonly understood to include the island of Greenland, the isles of the Caribbean, and to extend south all the way to the Isthmus of Panama.

The easternmost extent of Europe is generally defined as being the Ural Mountains and the Ural River; on the southeast the Caspian Sea; and on the south the Caucasus Mountains, the Black Sea, and the Mediterranean.

Africa's northeast extremity is frequently delimited at the Isthmus of Suez, but for geopolitical purposes, the Egyptian Sinai Peninsula is often included as part of Africa.

Asia usually incorporates all the islands of the Philippines, Malaysia, and Indonesia.

The islands of the Pacific are often lumped with Australia into a "land mass" termed Oceania or Australasia.

Although the above groupings are the most common, different continental dispositions are recognized or taught in certain parts of the world, with some arrangements more heavily based on cultural spheres rather than physical geographic considerations.
Astralia is the way the ozzies pronounce it .... :-)
Actually I forgot the "y" and the"r".. Astrayliar
Happy Thanksgiving weekend everyone.
I would guess many turkeys are running scared right now.
On a bit more curious note, I can only wonder why the City spent our dollars to give us all multi-coloured curbs in the downtown and nice painted parking stall lines. Winter is close and won't the graders and sidwalk plows scrape it off ,only to be done in the spring again? The parking lines used to be done by City workers and now done be contracters. In the spring I might add. Wow, I guess we will have multi-coloured snow to plow. I sure hope the blower operater doesn't poop when red snow comes out of the shute. You can imagine why.
Snow is comining.....
Yassir Arafat got the Nobel prize also. That in itself speaks volumes.
To all the idiot ATV drivers. I drive a big truck so if you guys insist on driving at high speed on the wrong side, in the inside of a curve and hit me you loose idiot. I will also sue your estate and anything else related to you that I can get my hands on.
Thanks for the geography lesson gus. I did not know that N.A. consisted of more that Meheeco, the yanks and good old CANADER.
Oh, and the aussies say "strahlya"
metalman.
A Clean Air Ambassador for the city is a joke and a complete waste of money!

Councillors Green and Stolz were right to oppose this waste of time and money.
The Province Oct 8th, there was a article called 'A huge industry with no product' Chief Bill Wilson walked the walk on skid row in Van. here are some of his comments; the injection sites while a good idea on the surface, represent a danger to women and are starting to be shunned. Apparently men prey on women who they identify as having drugs in the zones where they are not protected by the police. Their appearance at the injection site also makes them targets. There are more groups dealing with aboriginal people there than the number of aboriginal people I saw on my tour day. My niece provided me with a list of groups and goverment agencies that numbers in the hundreds. Why so many? I really have no idea what all of these groups do. I am particularly disgusted with the multiplicity of aboriginal service groups that overlap in their mandates and compete with each other for funding to supposedly serve the same people . It is with great disgust that I mention the fact that the Dept. of Indian Affairs budget will exceed $12 billion and yet the living conditions of my people have continued to worsen. The sad situation on the reserves and in the Eastside has produced a lower life form known as the "welfare pimps " They are the Lawyers, consultants, social workers , healers, gurus, mystics, many of them aboriginal, who have crawled out from under their rocks and thrive on the suffering of my people. They breed as cockroaches feeding on decaying flesh.
