Slight Drop in Unemployment Numbers

Prince George, B.C.- The latest stats show  a  slip in unemployment numbers.
 
In Prince George, the rate has dipped to 11.7% last month from 12%
.
The Cariboo Region’s rate dropped nearly a full point from 13.3% to 12.4%.
 
Provincially the rate slipped to 7.4% from 7.8% and the National mark is now 8.4% down from 8.7%
 
B.C. had the largest employment gain among the provinces,  up 14,000. Although down 1.7% since October 2008, employment in B.C. has been increasing since March 2009 (+1.3% or +30,000).

Are these stats compiled from EI claim records? If so, then the "drop in unemployment" is probably attributable to people whose benefits have come to the end.
