Prince George, B.C.-  A coroner’s jury has been shown a video of the final minutes of Cheryl Ann Bouey’s life.
It was late June last year when the 42 year old Prince George woman was arrested along with a male friend for being drunk in a public place. She and the male were transported to the detachment.
Family and friends in the courtroom wept as the video shows Bouey pacing the cell, she then removed the drawstring from her pants, tied it around a bar in the cell and around her neck, then slumped to the floor.
The arresting officer, Constable Poyzer, testified it was his opinion that Bouey was in a depressed state. Police had indicated it was their intent to keep the pair in cells overnight and release them in the morning.
When officers did a check of the cells area, they found Bouey unresponsive and attempts to revive her failed.
Earlier today, pathologist Dr. Vernon Bowes testified at the Coroner’s inquest that Bouey had likely slipped into unconsciousness within 5-7 seconds and would have been brain dead after 30 seconds.
The inquest continues.
