The Air Quality Advisory issued Friday afternoon remains in place...

The Ministry of Water, Land, and Air Protection says, based on air quality data, the high levels of fine particulates are mainly due to industrial and combustion sources, with some contribution from road dust.

The Ministry is advising all residents, but especially those with cardiac and respiratory diseases, that these particulate levels can cause adverse health effects.  (for more information, visit the Northern Health Authority website at www.Northernhealth.ca)

The ban on open burning continues and wood-burning appliances may only be used when they're the sole source of heat for a residence.

Stop burning slash! I am asked to reduce my carbon footprint while untold thousands of tons of logging "waste" are being burned and converted into greenhouse gases!

The Ministry of Water, Land, and Air Protection isn't doing its job, period.
No back yard weiner roasts, no chiminasies burning on the patio, and heaven forbid we would think of actually lighting up the wood burning unit on a cold chilly night, but burning huge piles of slash goes unquestioned in this area.

How does this make any sense to any of us with a brain?

It's time our Northern Health Authority, all of those academics at UNBC who only want to study the air quality problem and our Provincial Ministry of Water, Land & Air Protection (Pollution)along with our Mayor and City Alderman sat down together and actually made some sound recommendations for a solution to this problem.

I would like to suggest that 80% of our poor air quality problem comes from 20% of our potential sources.

Let's see if we can narrow things down a little so we can focus 80% of our efforts in reducing the pollution from these sources. Chester
