Prince George, B.C. – About twenty members of the families of victims of the so called “Highway of Tears” took part in a full day information session yesterday in Prince George.
E Division Corporal Annie Linteau says the head of the E Pana Investigation into the disappearances and deaths of 18 women along Highway 16 was on hand to make a presentation on the investigation, but there was no announcement about any possible breaks in the investigation. “This (the meeting) was to show our commitment to the families and to the investigation” says Corporal Linteau.
Lack of communication with the RCMP was a concern expressed by families of the victims at the Highway of Tears Symposium held in March of 2006 in Prince George. One of the recommendations from that symposium was that the RCMP re-establish and maintain communication with each of the victim’s families.
Mavis Erickson, a co-ordinator of the Highway of Tears symposium made a presentation on some of the efforts she has been involved with including a meeting within the last couple of weeks with the Attorney General as she pressed for a special inquiry into the disappearances and deaths.
