It's Friday....YES!!!
Have a great day everyone! :)
Friday the 13th... for many people it's a really bad day to be out and about. Bur for me it's one of the best days of the year.

I'm a pretty happy guy. You'll usually find me with a smile on my face. I enjoy making people smile and am always in a good mood. If bad things happen to me then I deal with them and move on, putting them behind me and once againbeing a happy guy.

But on Friday the 13th things change. It's almost like I'm happier.

You see, a fair amount of people are walking around talking about how bad their day was and saying things like "Well it's Friday the 13th ya know, I should've stayed in bed. They're blaming everything on the fact that it's the 13th of the month and that it's also a Friday.

I say hogwash. It's got nothing to do with that at all.

I've always believed that our perception of things is what affects our atti-mood (which is attitude and mood all in one).

If you believe that today is going to be a bad day simply because of the date, then it will most likely turn out that way.

I always believe the opposite. Today is always a good day for me. Why? Well because I get to walk around in a good mood watching everybody else panic and stress about it.

It's almost comical to watch.

How can a date in a predetermined time dictate what kind of a day we're going to have? It doesn't. You're attitude and your mood determine that.

There's a saying I really like that reflects this and for the most part it works well for me (there's always an exception).

It goes like this. "If there's something that you don't like or that bothers you, change your attitude - change your attitude and you can change you life"!

And on that note I hope everyone has a GREAT Friday the 13th, I know I will.

Well said, use your common sense and be safe. You can smile just for the fun of it. Yes... you can get thru life without hurting someone on purpose.
Hmmm, If it was in October.... It would be spooky.
With the start of snow fall, drive defensively there are those out there that still think they own the road. (they think... I have 4x4, can race around like mad....yes but you aren't going to stop faster that I can.)
as you can tell I had an experience with what I call an idjit..
Have a good day all
I thought that as a taxpayer we all own part of the roads. I am not sure which part is mine so I am always respectful of others since I am mostly driving on parts of the roads that belong to a bunch of others.

When I find my piece of the road, I might just put a toll gate up if it is in a good spot.
Has anyone heard anything from the new guy in charge of engagements yet? Anyone getting engaged in the next little while?

Maybe he is waiting for his $25,000 office renovation to be finished with TV cameras and everything so he can broadcast his weekly message directly from City Hall to the plebes on the streets.
I hear that somebody is trying to get an old downtown hotel designated as a heritage building so it can't be demolished and make way for some of the long awaited downtown rejuvenation.

It's supposed to be an architectural marvel of some kind. All I see is an ugly square box that has had its day long ago.

Anybody care to comment and fill me in?
Not sure which building it would be diplomat, but I agree with you!
I think trying to preserve the old look of the downtown core is part of the problem!
Many of those old buildings are too small to be good for much in today's business world.
Developing the land itself seems to make more sense.
And nobody is going to be very interested in buying the property if they can't tear the building down and build to their needs.
Knock 'em down and start over!
Hence the idea of starting at Victoria with a line of D9 cats and plowing all way to the river!
;-)
I thought once a building was designated a heritage building you couldn't demolish it. Besides being eligible for certain grants isn't that the whole reason behind the designation?

One note of interest that I'm not certain is even related but I have heard that a real estate agent is going from store to store on George Street trying to get business owners to sell their stores to an undisclosed client.

Anyone hear anything about this?
probably the guy who has a couple of bodies tucked away in the insulation.
"...that a real estate agent is going from store to store on George Street trying to get business owners to sell their stores to an undisclosed client."

Newtechie, wouldn't that be the best news that one could hope for? Just look at some of the hovels!

What is the deal with IDL?

Do they simply have too many contracts to complete them all on time, or are there other issues?

How do they not have the work at city hall completed in time for the Remembrance Day ceremony?

It seems that the majority of their many, many projects in PG tend to take a very long time to complete.

Does anyone else find it odd they have so many projects that all seem to last so much time?
dan

weather.
Stompin Tom is correct. The weather has had a lot to do with the delays IDL has experienced.
Heritage building status does not mean it can't be torn down. Some building that were already torn down have been given heritage status. This status is mainly for recording information on certain buildings.
That crater at the intersection of 15th and Hwy 97 is getting bigger.
Drivers: remember to hug the right hand side of the left turn lane from 15th onto 97 east...grrr
I literally laughed when I read this article - Winnipeg is going to spend 130 Million dollars to rennovate a building for Police to move into. 48 doesn't seem like such a bad deal.

http://www.cbc.ca/canada/manitoba/story/2009/11/13/mb-police-building-plan.html
Diplomat, the building in question is the venerable old Prince George Hotel. It has been purchased by the group that is renovating the Ramada Hotel.
(or by the Ramada Corp. not clear on that)
Word has it that the structure will be demolished, and a parking lot for the Ramada put in it's place. It is true that the PG Hotel has been around long enough to classify it as a heritage building, but I hope to heck they get it levelled before the Heritage Society succeeds in preventing that from happening. If it was an example of fine architecture from our storied past, I would support the notion of saving it in some form or another, although that concept can get ugly, just look at the homeless shelter on 5th and Dominion that was once an 'Art Deco' B.C.L.D.B. storefront. THey were forced to preserve a portion of the old structure and build the new one beside and around it, it is hideous, imho. Anything they can do to improve the downtown is AOK with me, including tearing down the PG. Betcha 10 bucks the Cooles Bros. (PG owners) agree. metalman.
hmmm Winnipeg, estimated population of 666,000 people. City of Prince George population of apporx 77,000 people.

Prorate that, for the same amount of people in Winnipeg, a building that costs 45 million for Prince George would cost them 415,000,000.

If Prince George built with Winnipegs cost per citizen, ours should cost 15,030,000.

Hmmm, we are spending 3 times a much per capita.

Maybe the old PG Hotel should be the new police station, they all know their way their, the cops and the bad guys.
Maybe the Heritage Society can be given the old Prince George Hotel, metalman, under the condition that it must be moved to another location somewhere, like a PG Heritage Park, or something like that!

That would solve the problem, wouldn't it?
a parking lot. The best solution. Might as well do the whole downtown.
So has anyone seen the Speed Board going up to the University? I have. This should help the situation of speeders driving like they are on the Autobon.
To opinionated:
Maybe they speed so they get enough air time to avoid most of the potholes?
;)
No one drives up there "like they are on the Autoban"(sic) & a sign won't slow anyone down (there was probably one there already).
My buddy (a reliable source) said to me there was a Greyhound bus in Prince Rupert whose front wheel fell off while meandering in the city. Thank goodness it din't happen on the highway. He said a lot of passenger took pictures of the wheel that fell off the bus. This time the "wheels on the bus only went 3/4 of the way around. (Or sumthin' like that) How come I din't read that in the paper or see it on TV? Bad press for the bus company? I need to see a pic.
No comments on the alarmist overstatements around Swine Flu leathality? I find it frustrating how the media continues to mention the number of H1N1 cases, hospitalizations and deaths without puttig the stats into any perspective. To top it off are the rumours of the virus being especially dangerous to perfectly healthy people. I think people deserve some objective reporting on the subject, but unfortunately it seems that there must be too many pockets getting heavier over the scare in various lines of work.
commoner, where is highway 97 east? We have highway 16 east, and highway 16 west, but NO highway 97 East!! Please clarify, so we know which left turn lane to avoid.
samiam:
as per page 10 in the PG & area phone book maps section.

Towards the Hart...I do believe that is east is it not?
...and yes samiam, I thought so too. So it should be 16 east I would presume but Victoria is labelled as hwy 16...

Enter 15th Ave & hwy 97 Prince George BC
Has anyone else been watching the curling from CN Centre on TSN? It's embarassing to see so many empty seats on a national telecast. Looks like there is about as many people present as there is at a Cougar game. Precious few.

So the wheels on the bus don't go round, and round...round and round?
Idle zone - 5th floor city hall - check it out - allot of air circulating (bad for the environment).
