It May Just Be A Start, But It Has A Nice Feeling

It is a start, a big jump, in troubling times. A 747 Jumbo Jet lands in PG on its way to South America.

It definitely has a nice feel to it, and watch, I believe there will be more. It always takes that first step,  that first sale so to speak,  before you can get the orders moving and that is exactly what the airport people have been doing. They have been out there beating the bushes looking for some orders, someone to say, hey let’s give PG a try and see how the prices work out.

Our homework suggests that there are a lot of opportunities out there for big jets to use this airport as a refuelling stop, a few testimonials is all it takes.

So today we mark a first, as Southern Air from Seoul , South Korea, lands for fuel before heading off to Miami and then onto Caracaras, Venezuela, South America.

A tip of the hat to you folks, you have taken a lot of heat, now you have your first start. Let’s hope it is the beginning of a long career.

Congrats to all of the people who pushed for this project, UP...UP...AND AWAY!!!
Good going to all concerned!!
I will wait and see, one plane doesn't justify the kind off money spent at this airport. All I see is real money going up up and away. Thats taxpayers money.
Yes I am hopeful that this will be the start of something special. I know things like this take time and the early results sometimes don't look like much, but you have to start somewhere.

Good luck PG Airport!
I heard from a source that it will be late...Like about 16 hours ,I hope not because I have changed my plans to go see it!
Awesome news!!!!
Maybe Opinion250 could do some investigating on how much a jet saves by refuelling here vs. Alaska, including all applicable fees?

At the end of the day, if the airport doesn't save somebody some serious money, it will be hard to attract more planes here.
I suppose it might also depend on what incentives or perks the PG Airport is offering....
discounts on price of fuel?
no landing fees ?

I am having trouble wrappng my head around these large airlines all of a sudden wanting ot stop here unless there are perks...
surely not just because there are afew more feet of runway?
and if there are no perks and they want to stop here...
by all means THEY ARE WELCOME....
"I am having trouble wrappng my head around these large airlines all of a sudden wanting ot stop here unless there are perks"

The origin-destination as reported yesterday are the same. BUT, the intermediate ports of call has changed to make PG a more reasonable place to stop.

Last port of call in Asia is Chitose near Sapporo. The flight is no longer direct from Seoul to PG as originally reported. Also, Miami is no longer a port of call.

Chitose to Anchorage = 4,840km
Anchorage to Caracas = 8,590km
Total = 13,430km

Chitose to PG = 6,640km
PG to Caracas = 6,840km
Total = 13,480km

Since the longest leg will determine cargo capacity, PG is the obvious better choice if that is the key factor.
This is a step forward no matter what the haters say.
