Prince George- The first 747 to land for refuelling in PG has been delayed. Airport officials said this morning that the scheduled landing has been put forward about 16 hours because of logistics at the originating airport. The aircraft was originally scheduled to land at 11.30am. today.

The 747 will be the first jumbo jet to land in the city to be refuelled since the runway extension was put in place in an effort to attract commercial traffic.

Big surprise
Lucky break, considering the weather. Blame is place on the other airport not ours. Would have looked terrible if the first jet to land here had to be diverted.
The fact that the airport might be attracting large aircraft I think is good...
I just wonder what enticement was offered?
I just somehow can't see a long range aircraft just landing at an airport that has been ignored for so long...and delaying their trip.
I would think it would be just as easy to fuel up full before departure and fly non-stop.
Free landing fees?
discount fuel?

free lobster dinners? lol..kidding of course...
These Planes may be long distance, but they have a finite amount of fuel they can carry. They make their money off of weight of freight so they maximize the cargo the carry to make the most cash and as such they cannot make the flight without refueling on route because of the distance they are going. The attraction here is we are close enough to the transcontinental flight path that the overseas flight can land here for refueling and save time off the trip as the don't have the competition for space for refueling as they do in Alaska.
Weather would have been no factor this morning.
"I would think it would be just as easy to fuel up full before departure and fly non-stop."

Cargo planes make money by transporting cargo, not fuel which is non-money making deadweight!

If they can safely reach a planned destination by leaving with a tank that is only half filled (for example) they can carry that much more cargo. Halfways during the trip they land at a refueling airport (PG in this case) and fill up just enough to reach the final destination.

They always carry a safety margin too, of course.

Nothing to do with lobsters. It's just a way of transporting cargo with the greatest amount of profit. It all adds up.

No big controversy here....there were some delay problems in Asia and the plane didn't fly....so those historical "anti-airport expansionists" wax hollow with their babble. Same old...same old...getting tiresome.

Fact is this airport expansion is going to be a huge economic driver in Prince George's future....get used to it.
Just like our chopstick factory was a huge driver in our economic future, right? And Horizon Air? Oh, and oil and gas exploration right? And the new subdivision at Tyner Heights?

LMAO...baaaaaaaaaaaa
