The delegation of Russian dignitaries from the state of Khabarovsk in the Russian Far East is extremely pleased with its study tour of local government and related organizations in Pruince George.

Dr. Alexander Levintal, Deputy Governor of Khabarovsk wrapped up the visit this way  "The delegates were very appreciative of the high level of attention the group received from all the local community participants." He particularly thanked Mayor Colin Kinsley for spending as much time as he could with the group.

The four person delegation was given seminars on local government structure and function by the city and regional district staff; they attended seminars with UNBC community development staff, CNC international education department, Initiatives Prince George, Northern Trust, School District 57 and provincial staff. Dr. Levintal noted “it was a short, intense and very successful tour”.

The group noted the emphasis placed on public planning here and thought that was something they could do much more of in Russia. They also made note of the many intermediate links between government and business and found the non-government organizations useful. In particular, they noted the Initiatives Prince George and the Northern Trust as interesting mechanisms for economic development that help foster the relationship between government and the private sector in developing the economy.

The group wants to continue to develop its existing relationship with CNC and would like to send students here to help foster further ties. They were also very impressed with the University of Northern BC and the community development staff.

Air quality ... why do we get info two years after the fact? Why has the city not been involved and is now setting up their own task force?

How about the new Zoning plan which is in the works ... where is the simplified version of it which almost anyone can understand? ... waht are the 10 most important changes proposed which we should all know about and what differences will they make?

Public participation .... the City does not know the meaning of the concept!!!!!
