Update on Smithers Shooting

Prince George, B.C.- The Commission for Public Complaints Against the RCMP says the Independent Observer looking at the investigation into the RCMP shooting of a man in Smithers , has filed an update on that investigation.
The Observer has finished an initial assessment as to the impartiality of the investigative team and has concluded there are no issues as they relate to impartiality.
Meantime the man wounded in the November 21st incident continues to recover in hospital in Vancouver.
The 24 year old man, an American Citizen, was shot Saturday November 21st when a police officer tried to remove him from a truck and the truck accelerated, dragging the police officer.
It has been confirmed the officer fired “a number of shots” although how many hit the suspect has not been released.
The truck that was stopped by Smithers RCMP members has been confirmed stolen from Salmon Arm sometime during the evening of November 19th or early morning of November 20th.
Charges of Possession of Stolen Property and Dangerous Driving under the Criminal Code of Canada are being recommended to Crown Counsel against the 24 year old man for this incident.
