How many more loses must it take to fire the top coaching staff?
So who are the Cougars supposed to hire if they fire the coach? It's not like there are a lot of coaches available willing to coach for this franchise right now.
Attendence was 1898, probably the lowest on record, and this is with a first class team like Calgary playing.

Its pretty obvious that the frost is off the pumpkin and that the Cougers are now left with the hard core fans. Ie; approx 1800 individuals.

Its only a matter of time before this franchise moves on to greener pastures.

I would bet there are any number of junior coaches that would not only be willing, but capable of coaching this team. The cougars are in a league that is scouted by the pro's so the players' skills should all be up to about the same grade.

Surely there is a coach with the right credentials, skills, and availability somewhere.

On the other hand, MrPG may have a good point as to why our local representative team is always in the basement. Maybe Prince George does not have any coaches of the needed caliber. Maybe they are all just junior level amateurs coaching the sons team. Maybe PG is not the hockeyville it is purported to be.

1800 attendees for a rink with a capacity approaching 6,000 is an embarrassing travesty. How can any team make a go of 30% attendance. I bet the Spruce Kings get more fans. Heck, I have seen more than that at bantam tournaments.
Ho hum. Just change the date and write all these Cougar games results in advance. When there is a game, fill in the numbers and click the mouse.
Halloween was the lowest attendance on record around 1600.

We just changed the coach, he is a capable coach.

There are a few players that belong in the WHL Viedensky, Connolly, Forsberg, the Goalie's. They looked very good last night. For their ages they are very good.
There are a few other cougars that did ok but some of those players are good players but wont go much further after the WHL.

They were chosen by the General Manager and his choices can be questioned.

Face it without Connolly,Viedensky this team is in a differnt league.
"I would bet there are any number of junior coaches that would not only be willing, but capable of coaching this team."

You would think that, but the reality is that the 'good' 'capable' coaches will gravitate to many other teams other than a basement dwelling out of the way team like the PG Cougars.

The fans will show up when the team starts to show that it can win on a semi-consistent basis. Unfortunately, the team will probably move before that happens, and that would be shame.
I hear Dusan Benicky is available.
Where are they going to move??

WHL Teams dont just move for no reason. The Cougars are a terrible team and that is why no one goes to the games.
If you move them and they remain consistantly terrible there wont be any improvement to seats being filled.

The problem is they are Bad and have been for a long time.
The Management ( Dallas Thompson ) is showing that there wont be any future improvements to the team.

End Result Low fan turnout !!!!!!!!
They moved from Victoria to PG because of chronic low fan support. Don't fool yourself into thinking it won't happen again.

PG is out of the way in terms of travel, and some teams in the WHL probably wouldn't be too upset if there was another team in Washington or something like that.
Sorry clean, I cannot agree with your assessment of the team. Their record is abysmal indeed. however, I cannot believe that each and every player is that bad individually. Sure, there will be some stars and some duds, but on the whole, they should be approximately equal in skill to any other WHL player. With that being the case of it not being a group of complete incompetents on the ice, then is must be coaching.

To quote you: "The problem is they are Bad and have been for a long time."

That statement alone should hint at the root cause. They are always bad, yet they change players annually and in the mid season. So the onus is off the players. This puts the onus on the next one in the chain of success, that is the coaching staff.

The team was sold to the current owners last year or the year before. Realistically a short time ago in the life of a franchise. They were bad before the new owners took over, and they are bad now. So the ownership of the team has had little to no affect. That means the coaching staff is at fault.

The only major coaching change I am aware of is when they dumped Dempsey because they were such a poor performing team. Well guess what, Dempsey is coaching the Pg Spruce Kings and they have done better since he took the reigns. Whether he was a scapegoat or not, his record with his current team speaks volumes to his ability as a coach.

It is not a matter of changing the head coach alone, they need to clean house completely. They need a new team culture of a winning attitude. That begins with the coaching staff in its entirety.
What are you talking about Loki, new owners? Brodsky has been the owner of the Cougars for more than two decades. The biggest problem is that the people responsible for the primary hockey operations (the GM and VP) are married to each other, have zero hockey knowledge or clout, and are the owner's children. Until we get REAL hockey minds running the show...no decent coach, scout or player is going to want to bust their ass and give 110% to this gong show.

So while I agree with your assessment that the current talent (and probably any other year's crop of kids) under a premium hockey system can be made a helluva lot better than what we see in PG...the reality is that nobody really tries here. As with any commercial business...the incompetence and indifference at the top has a serious trickle-down effect that impedes morale and progress.

I don't even really care if Brodsky stays the owner, so long as he replaces his kids with real hockey people and steps away to let the new TRUE HOCKEY MINDS build a franchise that has the respect of the rest of the league (and most importantly agents and scouts and parents) so that quality players will want to not only play here...but play HARD and TO WIN here. Until Dallas is gone I refuse to buy another ticket.
