Two people have been killed in a head-on collision on Highway 16, 10-kilometres west of Prince George.

The fatal crash occurred just after 10am, between Hartman and West Beaverly Roads, and the route remains closed while RCMP continue to investigate the scene.

And Police say they've been attending several mishaps as a result of freezing rain earlier this morning that has turned streets and highways into sheets of ice.

Police are advising motorists to use extreme caution when out on area routes and to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary.
