Sprott Shaw Community College Director Alan Timberlake had a special treat for seniors from Chateau Prince George Tuesday. A training session was held at the downtown campus on how to connect with family and friends by internet and e-mail.
“One of my business instructors pointed out to me that seniors in the community have either bought their own computers, or have been given one by family or friends, in order to keep in touch. The problem is, some seniors need prompting on how to access the software features to effectively send and receive messages. That’s no problem for the college – regular students are on Christmas break - so we offered seniors at Chateau Prince George a complementary fast track course. The seniors enjoyed themselves so much and they were a treat for Faculty to instruct – I’m arranging for more similar opportunities for seniors to get the internet and e-mail training.”
This service is being made available at no cost to the seniors community in Prince george.
Timberlake says any senior over 70 living in Prince George who would like complementary computer training in order to connect with family is welcome to contact Sprott Shaw Community College. Group sessions with a minimum of six seniors will be up to two hours in duration and will run regularly based on an on-demand basis through the new year.
Seniors or seniors organizations and facilities can call the College at 561-1555 and ask to speak to Alan Timberlake for more information.
