Prince George, B.C.-  Mr. P.G. is ready to welcome the Olympic Torch Relay when it comes to Prince George on January 29.

Mr. PG is all decked out with a scarf, red mittens similar to those worn by the 12,000 torchbearers in the relay and a special torch. The accessories were put together by Task Force members Roy Olsen and Lisa Shaw-McLaren. "We are lucky to have creative individuals like Roy and Lisa to help us mark the arrival of the Olympic Torch Relay in a way that’s unique to Prince George," says Task Force Co-chair Dave Wilbur.

Mr. PG’s new look includes a 27 foot red fleece scarf, red felt mittens and of course a torch. The torch itself is created from chloroplast signboard, a recycled street banner and a special light to replicate the flame.

The Olympic Torch Relay comes through Prince George on January 29. A community celebration is planned for Exhibition Park from 6:00 – 8:00pm. The family event is free and open to the public. There will be dazzling entertainment, special presentations, a spectacular fireworks show and more. Local Alix Wells has been named the community torch bearer. The 14 year old national Alpine ski team member will be the final

Well done Roy, Lisa, and Task Force members !!

I like it.

Photographs of Mr. PG's new outfit will ultmately be seen all over the world, and can only help enhance our image as a sporting community, and a part of this coming global event.

"The eternal optomists."

Cheers
Yesterday a young lady was heading to the USA to give speeches on the Owelimpics at a number of colleges and universities; when she was stopped at the American border; she was searched , finger printed, photographed and harrassed . After being denied entry she was stopped on the Canadian side and further interrogated like she was a terrorist. The ordeal was about 6 hours long. So much for Freedom & Democracy!!!
Denaljo????
What on earth has that got to do with this story about some creative ideas for helping Mr. PG celebrate the Olympics?

People get stopped everyday at the Border for a myriad of reasons.

The real entertainment in this province begins once the Olympics ends, and the big fight over money begins.

"After the Olympics, after the HST budget, there is one more epic B.C. political event coming up in 2010.

All those public-sector union contracts, settled with a snap of Carole Taylor’s golden Gucci purse in 2005, expire.

Correction, not all of them. The teachers signed for five years, so they have until 2011. The doctors and registered nurses negotiated extensions to give them another two years of raises.

The rest must face off at the end of March with a Gordon Campbell government that’s suddenly almost $3 billion in the red, and already on record saying there will be no new money for pay hikes."

So, that pretty much matches what the private sector has been dealing with over the past couple years.
Denaljo -- from trying to figure out your very strange post, on a thread about Mr. PG, I assume that this lady was denied entry into the US by the American customs, and then when she returned to the Canadian side, she was interrogated again for a number of hours.

So, firstly, assuming what you say is all factual, what do you think triggered this series of events? International smuggling of Olympic flyers ? Attempted spreading of unauthorized good will about a Canadian coming event? Or maybe she was to pro-Canadian for the US pallette ?

I've been back and forth across the Canada US border so many times I've long lost count, and its usually about a two, or three minute stop at the customs booth, hand them our passports, a couple "by the book" questions and answers, (where ya live, where ya goin' or where ya bin') -- stuff like that, and I'm on my way --- either side!

Obviously, there's a heck of a lot more to this than meets the eye, because I doubt Olympic flyers are illegal to transport across the US border, unless the lady was being paid to "work" in the States selling the Olympics to Americans !! That scenario, I suppose, would trigger red flags all over the place because if there's one thing our Americans cousins don't like -- its a non US citizen "working" on their turf without a green card !!

And - if I were a Canadian customs official and knew this lady coming in my door was just rejected entry into the US, you want to believe I'd like to know why -- because that's what they pay me to find out for starters !!

Anyway -- I doubt you can link this one to "Gordo" and "his" Olympics, ( which the bid for the rights to hold it in BC was initially launched by the NDP, and the first $150,000 start-up money for the bid was also provided by the NDP I might add).

IMO, I think we need furthur detail about this lady and her unforunate fiasco at the border to simply somehow attempt to link the fault to the Olympics, or Mr. PG's new duds.

Simple pretty baubles for your simple so easily fooled little brain!Big Brother is happy with you! Next they will be setting up cameras all over to spy on people. Oh! Wait! They are already doing that.
So I assume also that the NDP are responsible for the Billions in cost over runs that Gordo has run up? So go ahead and enjoy your cutesy little pic of Mr. PG.
Oh yeah - the story of the Nazi tactics at the border is true and came from one of the right wing mags in BC.
Maybe this is the story being referenced, although substatnially different from the version related above ..... but hey, that would not be unusual on this site.

In this case a yank was stopped by the canucks ..... nice reversal to show that both sides are capable of the same thing ......
Wow, big difference when you get the facts, but like I said, more actual facts are what we'd need to unravel this one, or attempt to peg it to Olympic cost overruns.

Cameras to spy on us Denaljo? You bet!! There's at least a half dozen trained on every angle of you when you cross that border either way -- and probably very sensitive microphones listening to and recording what you say as well. They've been there for years, and will be there as long as there is a border after the Olympics too. Better keep your true feelings to yourself until you're well away from that place, --- especially those with a bad attitude to "Big Brother".

Oh, and when you come back from your visit, better know your answers to their questions too, because "they" already know the answers, at least as to when you crossed, and who was with you when you did so. All "they" have to do is type in your previously recorded licence number as you drive up and "voila" -- there's you in all your finery!

Scary isn't it -- especially if you've got something to hide.
Cameras at borders ? Yup. I was referring to the ones being put up in downtown Vancouver. It is true a yankee woman was hassled at the border last week. I was going on about the Canadian woman going south. Since you are so good at looking up info; perhaps you can explain to me why art work is being torn down because it is critical of the owelimpics? It is all a slow but steady deterioration of human rights and freedoms; not about something to hide like the true cost of these games.
A link from that site may also be of interest.

All brought to you courtesy of 9/11, WTO protests, public protests at televised large and well known international events, and the proliferation of media during the age of satellite news signals and a proliferation of news only stations which are all trying to outdo themselves with filling otherwise dead air time.

In the final analysis, it is the fact that these events are televised, whether by open or hidden cameras, that increases the attendance and the nature of the protests.

Compare that to the fuss made about GOOGLE streetview cameras driving down the streets of Canada and making the images of a slice in time available to people accross the world.
Better stock up on ski masks Denaljo - 'cause you're gonna show up somewhere on a camera if you leave the house - even if just at a lot of street intersections. Or you could lurk behind your "scarf" like a lot of religious zealots prefer to do, so they can flaunt their murderous intentions without (they hope) being identified.

At least there's apparently no more of those NDP radar vans with cameras out there ready to trap you and your "vehicle" for starters.

I'm not all that happy about public places all over the world bristling with cameras either, but have to, like you, accept the fact that they're gonna be virtually everywhere we go for the rest of our lives, whether you or I like it or not. At least I take some comfort in the fact that under the right circumstances, cameras can actually aid in justice being served, such as in the Robert Dzeinanski(sp) case at the Vancouver airport, but of course, the camera has to be in the right hands at the outset, before the evidence can be manipulated to suit the accused, or destroyed because it is too damning to the accused, as we've seen done in some recent events.

After having my pickup rifled through in my own carport at home, when I forgot to lock it up one night, and losing a couple hundred bucks worth of items to some scumbag, I wished at the time I'd had a camera set up there too, so I could have captured his/her/their smiley faces for posterity, so I guess I understand why they're there, even if I don't like it !

Here's a free tip on how you could become a jillioaire. Invent a camera that see's right through those ski masks and scarves, showing the face behind it !!

Naaah - on second thought, soon as you did, there'd be a run on those metal helmets the Knights used to wear in the dark ages, and all the "crooks" and "protesters" would be marching around wearing them. The again, we could make them illegal to own, same as body armour is now ----

Aaaah, I'm off the subject -- how the heck did Mr, PG's new duds ever lead to this ?

Your vapid rhetoric is noted.
