Prince George, B.C.-  It was a busy night for the  enhanced  police crackdown  on impaired drivers. Extra police patrols took to the streets at 5:00 pm for a five hour period.

This was the first of four days of Enhanced Christmas Counterattack patrols. This first day was a shorter shift as many of the police officers had travelled from other areas to attend a seminar in Prince George, which ended at 4:00 pm. Only a portion of the entire compliment of extra enforcement officers worked late into the evening. For the next three days, however, all thirty-six (36) extra police officers will be working extended shifts to deliver the Christmas message -If You Do Drugs or Drink ,  Don't Drive.

The patrols and road checks resulted in thirteen (13) drivers losing their driver's licences for twenty-four hours; seven (7) for alcohol and six (6) for drugs. Two drivers were taken to the Prince George Detachment for breath samples. One was charged with Impaired Driving, while the second was served an Administrative Driving Prohibition for 90 days. Despite the warnings, police didn't seem to have any trouble finding impaired drivers during the five hour shift.

One impared driver. That is great news! I remember a time when every adult I knew drank and drove. Nice to see that things have changed for the better. :}
1??????????
7 24 hour suspensions, alchohol related.
6 24 hour suspensions, drug related.

1 impaired charge.
So the other 13 wern't impaired?
Bunch of heavy handed BS.
It was also a Wednesday night, I would expect numbers to rise as we move into the weekend.

Then again, hopefully people will get the message and make other arrangements.

Mind you, I think we have been saying that for the last 20 years at least.
We must be a bunch drunken sots to warrant moving cops out of Quesnel, Burns Lake, MacKenzie and Valemount to look after the drunk drivers in Prince George. Why don't they close all roads in the city for the holiday season and bust anybody driving anywhere for whatever reason. Papers please! I guess Quesnel, Burns Lake, MacKenzie and Valemount don't need any policing. Oh well....have fun, I'm not moving from my drive way until February.
"I'm not moving from my drive way until February" just to avoid being held up and hassled.
kitkat: If one is at a checkstop and a person drives up to your point and you detect the smell of liquor, and you blow a warn on the roadside screening device, then you get a 24 hr suspension under the motor vehicle act. It means your blood alcohol level is above a certain mark, but under the mark for a criminal charge of +.08

Same with drugs(marihauna). If your stoned and believe me, it is easy to tell, you get a 24 hr suspension.

Of course you can always argue the suspension at roadside and say you wish to take a breathalyser or give a blood sample. But what would a person really wish to have? - a 24hr suspension or a 365 day one???
If you are going through a roadblock (sober) and the cop asks you where you are going, can you tell him it is none of his business? But then again, if you say that you might get a tazering for "obstructing justice". After the cop asks you that question, answer a question with a question. (such an annoying trait) Ask him where he is going after work.
