Prince George, B.C.-The Regional District of Fraser Fort-George has adopted a Corporate Climate Change Action Plan aimed at reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions from its operations as it moves toward being carbon neutral by 2012. The plan also supports the Province’s goal of achieving a 33% reduction in emissions by 2020. “The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George prides itself on our commitment to the environment, so this plan represents an important step in fulfilling our commitment to preserving and protecting the environment around us,” says RDFFG Administrator Jim Martin. We’ve done an extensive review of our operations and determined a number of measures we can implement which will result in a significant reduction in emissions. The plan analyzed all Regional District facilities and determined that in 2007, the total energy consumption was 28,690 gigajoules, and just over 1000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions. The plan lays out 18 different actions that call on the Regional District to do everything from developing a Civic Green Building Policy and developing a monitoring program for fleet fuel consumption to reducing unnecessary staff travel.
