The Enhanced Police Counterattack Road Checks on Friday night produced similar results to those of Thursday night. Although the police reported less traffic and more designated drivers, on night three of the Enhanced Counterattack Road Checks, they were still surprised by the number of motorists, who still don't get the message.
The high profile road checks on the major arterial routes were conducted with thirty-four (34) extra police patrol units, including the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Agency. Twenty-seven (27) impaired drivers were removed from the road during the shift. Four (4) drivers were charged criminally, 2 were suspended for ninety (90) days and twenty-one (21) were suspended for 24 hours for alcohol or drugs.
The enhanced patrols resulted in the following statistics for a twelve (12) hour shift last night.

# of 24-Hour Driving Suspensions (alcohol) – 13 suspensions
# of 24-Hour Driving Suspensions (drugs) – 8 suspensions

# of Speeding offences – 7 charges
# of Provincial Statute offences - other – 8 charges
# of No Driver's Licence offences – 9 charges
# of Vehicle Impounds – 4 vehicles
# of Commercial Vehicle offences – 11 charges / 5 warnings
# of Moving offences – 20 charges / 21 warnings
# of Non-moving offences – 54 charges / 12 warnings
# of Vehicle Defects – 4 charges / 20 warnings
# of Liquor Seizures – 8
# of Drug Seizures – 5
Total - - 155 Charges 58 Warnings / Notices 13 Seizures
