Christmas Driving Naughty List Grows

The Enhanced Police Counterattack Road Checks on Friday night produced similar results to those of Thursday night. Although the police reported less traffic and more designated drivers, on night three of the Enhanced Counterattack Road Checks, they were still surprised by the number of motorists, who still don't get the message.

The high profile road checks on the major arterial routes were conducted with thirty-four (34) extra police patrol units, including the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Agency. Twenty-seven (27) impaired drivers were removed from the road during the shift. Four (4) drivers were charged criminally, 2 were suspended for ninety (90) days and twenty-one (21) were suspended for 24 hours for alcohol or drugs.

The enhanced patrols resulted in the following statistics for a twelve (12) hour shift last night.

# of Criminal Code Impaired Driving Charges – 4 charges
# of Administrative Driving Prohibitions (90 days) – 2 charges
# of 24-Hour Driving Suspensions (alcohol) – 13 suspensions
# of 24-Hour Driving Suspensions (drugs) – 8 suspensions
# of Seat Belt offences – 11 charges
# of Speeding offences – 7 charges
# of Provincial Statute offences - other – 8 charges
# of No Driver's Licence offences – 9 charges
# of Vehicle Impounds – 4 vehicles
# of Commercial Vehicle offences – 11 charges / 5 warnings
# of Moving offences – 20 charges / 21 warnings
# of Non-moving offences – 54 charges / 12 warnings
# of Vehicle Defects – 4 charges / 20 warnings

# of Liquor Seizures – 8
# of Drug Seizures – 5

Total - - 155 Charges 58 Warnings / Notices 13 Seizures

yes, scary isnt it!
Impaired driving doesn't necessarily mean drinking and driving,
drugs impair as well...

What is the total cost of all these charges?
Does it cover the cost of the 34 extra police patrol units?

Is the cost of 34 extra patrol units worth preventing a loss of a life?

Road checks are not only intended to catch people that drink and drive, they serve as a reminder to everyone to not do it.

I have seen several instances where someone has decided to take a cab home not because they thought they were too drunk to drive but because they feared being caught in a road check on the way home.

5:47 PM Saturday Dec 19. News item: Fire at PG airport. CBC.ca has it on their BC site. Opinion 250 closed 5PM Friday and open 8 AM Monday? Bummer. Will wait, though.

yeah, threw a christmas party. at the house. free booze, and the guys kept it down to a drink or two, and that was it.

Lots of losers drive in PG. To damn stupid to not drive drunk. Since I am in Southern Ontario viisting family I could really care less if drivers drive drunk. But when I get home I certainly hope they are all off the road by then. I don't need to be hit on my moutain bike.

yes thunder it is all about me. Because I don't suffer from bad self esteem as some I know. Why would it not be about me. If it isn't about me then whats it about. If I don't care about me who will. Only people who have a problem with me are those who would rather see me fail and be miserable. That is how crule some folks are.

Thunder I know who you are just by what you typed. To bad you are not transparent as I know you deleted your profile on facebook. I guess if you were a true victim you would have it out with me. But we both know the truth don't we. Well five years later I am alive and well no thanks to you and your selfish self and family. To me you are the one who needs help and always did. To think you help troubled teens. What a joke considering you couldn't even raise your own properly. I found out they were in foster Care a few times because you hid the fack that you are bipolar and took advantage of those who were out right with their meltal illness. Shame on you is what I say. Cowards is wh you are. To think my family is full of war hero's and your family is full of jail guards and folks that make money off peoples disabilites and you know full well you cashed in. Gee who got that metal health 200 dollar cheque every month while I paid the shot AND YOU KNOW IT. I remember fool and I will be on the planet a lot longer then you mate.
