Prince George- The Enhanced Police Counterattack Road Checks again netted a large number of impaired drivers in the Prince George area on Saturday night.
The statistics have provided the police with a number of future strategic considerations for the Prince George area.
The fourth night started with police reporting less traffic and more designated drivers, but they were surprised by the number of motorists, who still don't get the message and decided to drive while impaired. Early in the evening, the high profile road checks on the major arterial routes, initially gave the police hope that the motoring public might have finally listened to the warnings and messages around Drinking & Driving. Shortly after midnight, all those hopes dissipated and the police began encountering impaired drivers throughout the city.

Twenty-seven (27) extra police units were sent out on patrol for impaired drivers on Saturday night. Thirty (30) impaired drivers were removed from the road during the shift. Twelve (12) drivers were charged criminally, five (5) were suspended for ninety (90) days and thirteen (13) were suspended for 24 hours for alcohol or drugs.

I was at a house party last night and was absolutely shocked at the number of people who were drinking and intended to drive home. They thought there was nothing wrong with it and that they could still drive safely after several drinks. I was the only one out of several dozen who did not drink any alcohol. If they want to drink & drive and kill themselves that's one thing, but what about their passengers, their families and the people in the other vehicle that they may hit. People don't think about any of that when they choose to drink & drive. A big thank you to the RCMP for nailing these guys. I was stopped twice at these road checks over the weekend and thanked them both times for looking out for the rest of us.
Would be very interesting to see a list of names of offenders. I think impaired drivers are deserving of our scorn.
You do get a list of offenders, after they are convicted, its in the newspaper.
Can somebody explain to me what a non-moving offense is? thx.
A Non-moving offence would be my ex-wife:-)
hahahaha viking, Denaljo, i was curious myself.
What's with the 24-hour suspensions? Is that when the cop decides you're only almost drunk enough to charge?

There needs to be a black and white - I thought it was 0.08 BAC.
24 hour suspension is a real break...rather than charge you they decide to give you a break....
you don't quite blow.08 but your actions may be irratic....
should they do this?
you decide....
I say NO!

In addition to moving violations, such as speeding, drivers also face tickets for non-moving offenses. A non-moving offense can be any offense that occurs when the vehicle is not in motion, including parking tickets and license and registration errors. Like moving violations, however, non-moving violations can still result in points on driving records and possible license suspension for offenders.

Inner Peace

I am passing this on to you because it definitely worked for me today, and we
all could probably use more calm in our lives!
Some doctor on the TV this morning said that the way to achieve inner peace is to finish all the things you have started. So I looked around my house to see things I'd started and hadn't finished and, before leaving the house this morning, I finished off a bottle of Merlot, a bottle of shhhardonay, a bodle of Baileys, abutle of vocka, a pockage of Pringlies, the res of the Chesescke a n a box a chocolets. Yu haf no idr ow frigin gud I fel. Peas sen dis orn to anyy yu fee ar in ned ov inr pece

Happy Holidays...and keep it between the ditches!

A 24-hour suspension is the police discretion, and can be issued if you look tired, on drugs, or maybe drunk but they don't have a breathalyzer or in fact are 'giving you a break'.

The thing about a 24-hour is there is no recourse to have it removed from your license, because it is considered a 'judgment call' 'without consequences'.

An impaired charge goes to court and can be removed from your license if you are found by a court to be not guilty.

So it depends what a 'break' is, and how much you need to have a clean drivers license whether or not it is in fact a 'break' or an unjust use of power by a discriminating cop looking for a quota badge of sorts?

A person should always have the right to insist they are charged, so as to have a day in court rather than receive a 24-hour 'break'....
