CBC Radio's Betsy Trumpener is one of five B.C. journalists awarded a fellowship by the Jack Webster Foundation, in partnership with the Canadian International Development Agency.

Trumpener and the others will visit East Africa in the new year to experience first-hand reporting from developing countries.  A training seminar in January will precede March travel to Africa with team leader, Don Cayo, a Vancouver Sun columnist and veteran reporter on global development issues.

Neither the Jack Webster Foundation nor CIDA will have editorial control on the resulting work of the fellowship recipients.  The competition was open to B.C.-based journalists and was titled, "Seeing the World through New Eyes".
