With medical offices closing for the holiday, Prince George Regional Hospital is anticipating high pressure and high volumes in the emergency ward.
"So, what we really would appreciate is, in addition to the normal thoughts about safe behaviour and healthy Christmas holiday activities, is that, if people are concerned for minor medical reasons, that these be delayed and they be seen by their regular docs in the new year," says Dr. Jan Burg.
Dr. Burg says, "Essentially, it's a common-sense approach, but don't take risks." He says if there's any matter that's risky or urgent, don't delay and head either to the walk-in clinic or the emergency department at the hospital.
Burg says, "The recommendation is just to use as much sense as is commonly possible, if in doubt, ask a family member and the nurse's line. If it's a minor matter that can be delayed, delay it. If it's urgent and needs attention, head to the hospital."
The Nechako Medical Clinic, the walk-in clinic at Spruceland, is open Fridays from 1pm - 9pm, and Saturdays and stat holidays from 9am - 9pm. The phone number is 563-3399.
The B.C. Nurses' Line is 1-866-215-4700.
