I don't think their was any really big news flash this year, except that everytime the mayor opened his mouth we have had to dig deeper into our pockets for money that is just not there, and the new year will not be any different, we will just not be eating very much in order to fulfill his demands on us.
I thought it was Gordon Campbell And the Liberal party with lies and corrption uncovered.
The newsmaker in prince george was the economy.
Welllll.....Lying, corrupt Politicians really isn't news, it's life as usual. I
agree with Stompin'Tom that the economy & it's effect on our region was the biggest story this past year.
I agree with Big Shooter. Definitely Skakun.
Gordon Campbell for his HST fraud on the voters... hiding the issue during the election only to announce it after the election. The effects of this transfer of taxation from corporations to individual citizens is one of the largest tax transfer frauds in history and will have long reaching effects on the marginal and low income families as well as the small service businesses that rely on local consumer spending.

He has shown that he is completely held unaccountable for his undemocratic actions and therefor signals the end of any pretense to democracy in BC. That's real news to alot of people IMO.
I'll go with Skakun too and his attempt to expose the corruption in City Hall. We require a forensic audit immediately from an independent source. Both local newspapers had more than one excellent editorial related to the financial incompetence of City management and City Council. There was also another report (the name escapes me) that put PG's management of our tax money in a class reserved for very poor value for our money. These numerous sources cannot all be wrong. It is time to reduce services, increase efficiency, stop giving handouts to every organization that comes before Council and reduce taxes. Most of the present Council should resign and Rogers should lead the way.
I can't think of anyone locally who stood out. I'd like to think that our Mayor would have been front and center, but he wasn't. That was disappointing.

In reflection, Obama and Michael Jackson got a lot of attention if we expand our horizons.

Sorry, can't think of anyone or anything.
Michael Jackson
opps ummm have to think about that
Me ! :)
Brian Skakun.
The biggest 'non-story' as someone pointed out, is our new mayor. I was expecting some changes to come about, but we have gotten more of the same ineffective leadership, both by Dan Rogers and our local Councillors. Hopefully they can turn things around quickly.
Dick Harris - non-story...where is he???
The biggest story of the the years is the one that is little reported; the resilance of the City inspite of the local downturn in the forest industry. The surprising diversity of the economy is the biggest story.
