Prince George, B.C.-  The Air Quality Advisory for Prince George has been cancelled.

The provincial air quality objective for fine particles, PM2.5, is 25 micrograms per cubic metre, averaged over 24 hours. The 24 hour PM2.5 rolling average was 20 µg/m3 at the Plaza 400 downtown site at 10:00 am and 26 µg/m3 at College Heights.

The provincial air quality objective for fine particles, PM10, is 50 micrograms per cubic metre, averaged over 24 hours. The 24 hour PM10 rolling average was 30 µg/m3 at the Plaza 400 downtown, 50 µg/m3 at BCR and 39 µg/m3 at College Heights.

Based on the air quality data, the high levels were mainly due combustion emissions, including wood smoke (wood stoves) as well as emissions from industry and transportation sources such as automobiles, trucks and rail traffic.

Even though the 24 hour average for PM2.5 at College Heights still exceeds the provincial objective, hourly values are now low and are expected to remain lower for most of today. The 24 hour average is expected to drop below 25 µg/m3 within the next few hours.

And if it wasn't for that rotten cabbage smell, nobody would know any different.
Exaclty.... particulate matter can be an unknown killer, and has been for centuries.

Science has proven otherwise as we become more aware of the many things which can give humans a poor quality of life and sometimes an early death.

We havew learned to battle the cause of many such new effects that we find. Air quality is one of the more difficult ones since many people do not believe in it just as they do not believe in climate change. Interestingly many of the same people belive in God without proof as well.

:-)
Isn't it amazing, during the holidays the air was horrid, now that Environment people are going back to work tomorrow the air all of a sudden inmproves???
what is with that picture?

mmmm, mmm, mmm, gaaaaaaaaaassssssssssssssssppppppppp

the sound of people holding their breath.

I don't notice any difference, I have been stoking the wood stove all day.

Heck, I grew up in black snow country. Remember those good ole days, nobody was squawking about that back then, we all got our slice off the baloney sausage. Yep those were the days when we were trying our best to keep the roof over the kids heads, and grub on the table. and if we were lucky got a little present under the tree at Christmas.

yep, them days were simple, but we knew the value of a hard days work..... hmmm I wonder if some of these lily butt university kids will ever be able to provide for their families. We need only so many doctors, teachers and lawyers. Seems like we have a whole generation of over educated people. Lets get back to hewing timbers and digging holes. The meaningful work of sweat on our brows putting a roof over our heads and bacon on the table. You know those days, when you had wood stove to feed all day and night.

Give it a rest, He Spoke. The next thing you're going to say that you walked uphill to school both ways.

Yes, people didn't know any better back in the 'old' days. Women commonly smoked and drank while they were pregnant, but you know what, we now know better.
well some of us do MrPG

LOL, good one Gus :)

"hmmm I wonder if some of these lily butt university kids will ever be able to provide for their families"

Ever stop to wonder why so many of those "lily butt university kids" are still employed, while the guys that went to the mills and the bush right out of high school (if they finished high school that is), may be having a tougher go of things right now? Food for thought . . .
"Lets get back to hewing timbers and digging holes. The meaningful work of sweat on our brows putting a roof over our heads and bacon on the table."

Hewing timber???? You mean sitting in the cab of a harvester? "He spoke", you are lifing in a dream world. Those same days when all that work was done by hand falling were the days that those university kids had to memorize "stuff" because there were no computers and had to calculate "stuff" for the same reasons.

"The 1490D harvester combines all the usual comforts of a John Deere machine for a STRESS-FREE SHIFT.

"The interior of the cab is QUIET, COMFORTABLE, and CLIMATE-CONTROLLED, and meets all ISO protection standards. Visibility is excellent in all directions, and the OPERATOR SEAT and MINI-GRIP HAND CONTROLS are ERGONOMICALLY designed to keep productivity high."

Sorry, those days are gone and people live longer as a result. People born in the next year in Canada and other safety, health and quality of life conscious countries, are very likely going to be celebrating the 2100 New Year.

So quite being so macho since that went out of style a long time ago to those who have a bit of a brain between their ears and get with the program.

Don' forget, all good forest workers wear their PPE and know how to work the buddy system. If you work in the mill, wear your ear protection so you don't go deaf, your eye protection so you don't loose an eye or two, your steel toed boots so you don't crush your toes, your hard hat so you protect the brains you might still have, and remember to lock out your equipment when you are checking it out so it doesn't grab your arm and chew your body ot bits.

You can protect yourself like a whimp for those mechanical accidents and those workplace diseases. So do the same for those outside your plant by controlling the effects of the plant on the outside world.

It is called being a good neighbour. It is called staying in touch with the times.

This is 2010 coming up, not 1960!!!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~ahhh the sixties~~~~~~~~~~
ha ha ha, I was wondering if I would get a response on that kind of commentaries,
tee hee hee, best of the holiday season.
Dear Mr. Rogers
Had a bunch of guys over for Poker, and this one guy had real bad gas. Is it OK to call the Air Quality Police. Can we call 911 and have him patched thru?
