Prince George, B.C.- The Omineca Beetle Action Coalition is joining forces with the Community Futures Development Corporations throughout the region.

Earlier this month, OBAC huddled with representatives of the Nadina, Fraser-Fort George, and Stuart-Nechako Community Futures Development Corporations. The CFDC’s work towards enhancing business and entrepreneurial success, and community development. “They have the capacity to play a key role in helping the regional strategies be turned into reality”, says Bob Smith, Mayor of Valemount.

The two organizations are hoping to work together on some specific initiatives over the next year and beyond. That agreement would fit with the plans for some of the $100 thousand dollars OBAC recently received from the Province.

OBAC recently received a $100 thousand dollar boost from the province. OBAC Chair Don Bassermann, Councillor for the City of Prince George says the largest portion of the funds will be used on a cost-shared basis with like-minded organizations that wish to work with the Coalition on specific projects.

The funding will also be used to build partnerships and integrate the regional strategies into decision making and priorities at all levels and the Coalition will continue to devote some of its effort to advising senior governments on matters important to the region

So they have no ideas, but are willing to lobby for someone else that has idea's? Sounds more like an exercise in empire building with our tax dollars with no real substantial or sustainable economic enterprise to come of it.

I would have thought the OBAC could have formulated their own strategic plan with a buy in that could be presented to potential investors and venture capital? A road map at least that would detail resource utilization planning and niches to be filled to optimize the job oportunities?

"the Coalition will continue to devote some of its effort to advising senior governments on matters important to the region"

Ah, so that is what they think they have been doing.

So what advice to those governments - senior being federal and provincial, I assume - have those governments accepted and acted upon that those governments would not normally have had advice on before? In other words, where was OBAC instrumental in changing the course that was being taken without them and saved the day?
I hope that the OBAC has employed people in the process.
Another make-work project. Yippee!
You hit the nail on the head. It is an unemployment project.
Well I think we have just witnesses another excercise in bureaucratic gobblygook, purposely created to ensure that no one really will ever know what the folks at OBAC are really wanting to do with the money if they get it.

Meetings meetings, meetings, meetings, with results of those meetings only coming to conclusions that everyone already knows.

Jeez...you can sure burn thru a lot opf dough with endless meetings.

This coalition is a positive strategic move and long overdue, imo. This will provide greater access to funding that will undoubtedly give our economy the infusion it needs! I suspect it will also speed up funding processes and clear up red tape for entrepreneurs. This is good news indeed!
HMMM, they wiped off my other comments.
commoner.....the pine beetle, the effect on our economy, the steps needed to mitigate the damage to both the forest and the local economies.......HAVE BEEN STUDIED TO DEATH AND WE KNOW WHAT WE NEED TO DO. Instead of crating even more study groups, coalitions, etc etc....any funding coming from the BC Govt or the Feds, should be put DIRECTLY into opportunities that will create jobs and stimulate the economy.

I say the studies, meetings, inquiries, planning HAVE ALL BEEN DONE!

WE KNOW WHAT WE NEED TO DO....LETS JUST DO IT.
