Senner Sentence to be Delivered End of August
Teresa Senner will have to wait until the end of the August to find out if she will serve time behind bars, and if so, how long.
Originally charged with second degree murder, a jury found Senner guilty of manslaughter in the November 2002 stabbing death of Vanderhoof school principal Norman Wicks.
In announcing he would delay imposing sentence until late August, Supreme Court Justice Glen Parrett noted: "This is a particularly difficult case, not necessarily because of the circumstances but because of the wide range for sentence. The range is from suspended, to conditional, through to life."
In requesting a sentence that is either conditional or less than two years, Defense Counsel presented more than 50 letters of reference from Senner's family, friends and colleagues who described her as a loving individual who poses no threat to society. Many of the letters were written by people who were also friends of the victim, Norman Wicks.
Justice Parrett says he will consider all of the information carefully, but believes Senner, her family, friends and the community have a right to a full set of reasons for whatever sentence he hands down.
Those reasons, and imposition of sentence will be delivered on the 29th of August.
