The Salvation Army's 2005 Christmas Kettle campaign did a booming business...

The Sally Ann had set a goal of reaching last year's total of $100,000.00, but far surpassed that, collecting $151,000.00 over the month-long fundraiser.

There had been concerns with about two weeks left in the campaign that the target would be missed due to a lack of kettle volunteers, but, in the end, almost every shift was filled.

This year's campaign ran from November 25th to December 24th at 15 locations across the city -- in the downtown, College Heights and the Hart.

The money raised will fund programs for those in need, including:  the hot meals program, food hampers, toys & school supplies, and emergency shelters.

The Salvation Army has always played an active and visible roll in helping those in need.

We are thankful and grateful for this organization and all of the volunteers who make the Salvation Army work.

I heard that the Salvation Army was not going to be doing food hampers this year.

Apparently, food vouchers were going to be used instead. Does anyone know if this is true? If so, how did it work out? How many vouchers were handed out? What was the value of each voucher?

I'm just interested in how much more effective this strategy is compared to actual food being given?

You are absolutely right....but at least if they give them food they eat!
Better the vouchers than the hampers, and the organizations which give the hand outs should require a signature or some form of identification and cross check with one another.
I know of one woman who applied for and received 3 hampers from 3 organizations one Christmas. Had a great time, lots of company, and saved her money for booze.
I wish the public would worry as much about neglected and abused animals, but maybe it is time the S P C A got some kettles.
Wonder what the response would be to that????
It is so true, animals cannot speak or cry for help.
Many of these so called "needy" people seem to have "plenty" from the looks of their vehicles, clothing. and furnishings.
Lots of "rip offs" by the so called needy.
I give to the animals. The government and the generous public can give to the unfortunates. I pay taxes to help cover some of that. None of my taxes goes to the animals, other than the 2 legged ones. Lots of them out there with their hands out.
How about donating a few dollars to the S P C A????
You think maybe it's getting like Syria here? If a man gets hit on the hiway and killed, they boot his body into the ditch and let the bugs take care of it. If you hit a man's goat, they hunt you down and beat you senseless because it was his livlihood. Animals come AFTER people regardless, and thats what the good book says.
Yes, sir- supertech!
And how many vouchers did you manage to get?
Hope you got your "dog" food????
Heard your wife didn't enjoy it anymore???
Just joking??
The "good book" does not say joking is a No No!!
Damn, I hate it when a "mean streak" comes over me!!!
Happy New Year.
