Chimney Fire on Hart

Prince George,B.C. - Poor chimney design is being blamed for an early morning fire in the Hart Highlands area of Prince George.
Firefighters got the call around 6:45 this morning about a fire on Montgomery Crescent. Twelve firefighters responded and on arrival, crews quickly determined the fire had also spread to the roof structure surrounding the chimney. They were able to contain the fire to the area.
A preliminary investigation has revealed the fire started in the wall around the chimney. Investigators are attributing the cause of the fire to poor chimney design. Very little water was needed to extinguish the blaze, but damage is estimated at approximately $30,000.
There are no reported injuries and crews remain on scene.
