I have to jump all over the round-a-bout again.

Has the city done anything to try and educate the public how to use it? Yesterday I even saw the RCMP doing it wrong.

You do NOT signal entering the round-a-bout, there is only way way you can go, you have no option but to turn right.

You DO signal when leaving, just like any other intersection, when you going to leave you make a right hand signal as you approach your exit.

Why is this important? Because if you dont signal where your going, the vehicle at the next entrance has to stop and wait for you assuming your continuing on. The reason these were built is to keep traffic going, not to stop it. It is even more important in the winter when cars are coming up behind you and assuming they can carry on yet you have to stop because somebody doenst have a clue how to signal.

The education from ICBC and the city on this matter has been horrid.
The concrete medians installed in the center of Highway 16 West need to have some reflectors. I find driving at night is horrible, especially with oncoming traffic. Some of them do have reflectors but they are so dim, you can hardly tell they are there. Several others have mentioned the same thing to me. Wonder if it would do any good to contact YRB concerning this?
You drive "By feel" in the interior, they can't even use good reflective paint for the road lines, must use water paints, they paint the lines in September and they are gone by December.
Stompin Tom I would have to dis-agree, even if ICBC says that is how it should be done. What the Hell is the point of signaling if the ONLY POSSIBLE signal is to turn RIGHT! On a very large 3 or 4 lane circle that would work, HOWEVER on one the size of ours there is no point in signaling right when you approach your exit because the circle is so small all other traffic would have LONG figured out that you are doing. It makes WAY more sense to treat it as a normal intersection and signal right only if you are making the first right hand turn. NO signal if you plan on going straight, and a Left signal if you plan on taking the LAST exit. Again with the size of the circle ALL traffic can see your intentions if you signal them BEFORE you even get into the circle.
we are wondering where this round-about is in PG? We've seen areas where they added merges, but an actual round about like the one in Dawson Creek, have seen nothing like that, so we are very curious.
Here are the roundabout rules as enforced by ICBC.

How do I use a roundabout?

1. Approach
Reduce your speed. Watch for signs that may help you find your exit. Watch for people using the crosswalk, and be ready to stop.

2. Yield
Yield to traffic already in the roundabout that comes from your immediate left before you enter.

3. Enter
Enter the roundabout to your right (a counter clockwise direction) when there is a gap in traffic and you feel it is safe to do so. Continue until you reach your exit.

4. Exit
Never come to a full stop in a roundabout unless traffic conditions require it. Use your right turn signal to let other road users know where you plan to exit. Exit at a slow speed. As you exit, watch for people using the crosswalk, and be ready to stop. If you miss your exit, keep going around the roundabout until you reach it again.

Remember, they enforce them whether you like em or not.

The round about is on the Northend of Colin Kinsley Bridge.
Drivers in this town rarely signal at the intersections we have now, or they signal after they are in the merge lane. Now you expect them to signal in a roundabout. Dream on brother.
A lot of drivers don't signal until they actually turning the wheel to make the turn, no such thing as giving notice of their intentions until the last possible moment.
The key thing to remember when entering a roundabout is to give traffic already in the roundabout, and coming from you left, the right of way.

If the vehicle has a signal on, ignore it since there are so many people that get it wrong, you never know what the driver will do next.
Do any of you think that the GREEN OLYMPIC is actually green? Did you know that Al Nino is not the reason for our nice weather? Suzuki says it is due to Climate Change and that is the reason there is no snow on Cypress. Funny, my sister has skied this hill for over 30 years and says this is not a new problem there. She added that tulips sprout and bloom there in February most years. I love the round-a-bout! First one I ever experienced was in Boston, there are 24 exits on that one and it is 3 lanes wide. People signal there. LOL Good luck to the protesters today concerning our schools. Congratulations to all those who were chosen to carry the torch. Happy Friday All!
Sex education in our schools.
Should it be there?
If there is no sex education, should we support a club in the school based on orientation (GSA) or should it be part of it?
My advice; ignore other drivers' signal lights at your own peril.

"Use your right turn signal to let other road users know where you plan to exit"

Can ICBC explain how this rule would be effective on a one lane, small diameter roundabout like ours?

My advice; totally old school, but practice defensive driving. It still works.
metalman.
It would be nice if parents could be trusted to handle sex education themselves but unfortunately that will never happen. I know I was kind of taken aback when my 13 year old daughter came home this week and told me that they learned how to put condoms on bananas at school today and even had races to see he could do it the fastest...
Interceptor, is it better if she came home pregnant, or with HIV.

I am assuming you are one of the good parents that have had the sex talk with them. But I would venture to say less than half the parents avoid it. Thus the education system has to deal with it.
We have four girls, so yes weve had lots of talks. Thats precisely what I meant - I wish everyone would be responsible. Unfortunately alot of kids know more than thier parents about this stuff. We have a budget short fall and are closing schools while buying condoms to teach things that thier parents should be able to handle.
So I have a message for Brittany...your fellow DID try and leave you a message on your cell phone this week...but he got my cell by mistake.

He's really really sorry that he didn't get your message the night before and call you. It sounded like he might have over indulged a bit that evening and was just waking up. He was sure hoping that drinking one of those energizer drinks would help.

And he apologized over & over for not calling you. Please forgive him...I have... for my almost breaking a rib from laughing when I heard his message.
Sometimes the wrong number can be very entertaining lol
The problem with signalling when exiting the round-about is that the exits are so close together that your signal light is only on for a second or two before you actually turn. Also, I have learned the hard way not to trust signal lights anyway. I don't pull out in front of people until I see them slow down and start to turn.
Can anyone please answer this for me? Read an article in the Citizen this morning regarding cell phone use while driving. Here is the question - what does a person do when you see a driver using one? Was in the Save-On parking lot in College Heights this week and in drives a car and sure enough the young driver was yakking away while trying to make her way through the parked cars. Do you go up and tell them it is against the law and only get a mouthfull of abuse? Do you take their license number and report it to the police, ICBC? (But you have to have proof, right?) What about the highway drivers who are still disregarding the law? I see them constantly.
Would appreciate any feedback from fellow posters.
Thank you. Observer.
Observer, do you report people who go 60 in a 50 zone, tail gate, drive with no seat belt, fail to signal or commit ANY other traffic violation????? Probably not, so why does this new law make things any different? I would say the one and only thing most people would ever report is someone who is obviously drunk getting into the drivers seat or some one driving erratically with excessive speed?
From my own observations, I see lots of people still yakking and driving.

If you think you can drive well and talk on a cell phone at the same time, I'm here to tell you that you can't.
The following is in reference to the globull warming scandal that is unraveling but can go beyond that. Like to see opinions.

"There is a dirty secret behind the scientific side of this scandal. As the universities have become more and more hotbeds of socialism and political correctness, the scientists who receive federal funding for their research at those socialist/environmentalist, elitist, political correctness hotbeds have not wanted to be left out. Once, they were more objective and more scientific than the so-called social scientists and the humanities faculty. Most of this difference has now disappeared because we have so long allowed the lunatic left to run our universities and our government funding agencies. The scientists are now about as engaged in the cause of advancing socialism, elitism, radical environmentalism, political correctness as is the rest of the faculty at our universities and our government-run laboratories and institutions."
I feel the need to chime in on this driving while talking thing. First and foremost, it's not just YOUNG people that are doing it. It's everyone.

Also, this law would never have come into place if shitty drivers weren't on the roads to begin with. The real problem lies within the fact that it's way too easy to obtain a drivers license. STILL.

Even after all they ( the government ) has done to make it more difficult. It's still too easy. Every day we all see these clowns that still don't know how to merge or yield, or they swerve in and out of traffic because lord knows they are in such a hurry to get nowhere. It drives me nuts.

I've been a driver now for 15 years and have never caused an accident. I'm a roadstar, a safe driver, alert, and I don't drive excesively over the speed limit. Not saying I'm perfect by any means but what I'm getting at is the fact that you give a shitty driver another excuse to not pay attention ( cell phone ) and let the accidents begin.

I drove for almost 10 years while talking on the phone regularly. It's not hard to do, if you aren't a complete moron. First and foremost, pay attention to THE ROAD before anything else.

They've now banned driving while talking on the phone. Why don't they just ban eating while driving, or drinking a pop. Same thing. It's a distraction. Bottom line is this, pay attention to the road and not your make-up kit or your dog in the passenger seat and maybe there would be less accidents.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go back to learning how to work this stupid bloody ear piece thingy so I can have a conversation with someone while driving. Sorry, but I like to multi-task. But I better do it safely.

Good day to all.
"The round about is on the Northend of Colin Kinsley Bridge."

Thanks He spoke, that gave me my first laugh of the day.
Regarding someone yakking on a cell phone in a parking lot. The parking lot is private property. The owner, I presume should have a rule (or law), (enforceable by whom?) about using a cell phone while looking for a space to park. Extrapolate talking on yer cell phone while in your (shudder) idling car on yer driveway. Can you expect a cop to give you a ticket fer talking on the phone on yer own private property? I think not. Same with a seat belt law in a parking lot. Only on streets and highways, by ways, freeways, thoroughfares, thruways, lanes, boulevards, roads, cul de sacs, but NOT on someones property. As an aside, those old signs denoting the future and ongoing upgrade to our intersection at Domano are still up. Maybe Gordo doesn't want us to forget that. Maybe.
Nice try Harb, but a cop can arrest you for driving drunk in a 'private' parking lot, so this is no different.
Metis group's property sale may have violated Society Act. Has anyone drove down to SouthFort George area to look at the property in question?? It is a nice piece of property overlooking the RIVER and the Building on it is HUGE. My question is who owns Metis Housing ?? Goverment money is paying for them and not doing any follow up as to what happens to the money spent. The Goverment spent $893,500 to purchase and renovate the house as well as purchase a van, bus and equipment at 1224 Houston Lane, so what happened to the van, bus, and the equipment? we know what happened to the property. Two of the directors bought it for $l49,l00 on Aug l5,2008 for themselves. This included 1239 Houston Lane now its been SOLD for approximately $399,900 to who nows who. WHAT A DEAL. This was our money. MY question is, could this happen to other Metis group projects ?? I think for everyones benefit B.C. Houseing should take Metis Houseing over so their is accountability.
Wasn't talking about drunk. I was talking about cell phones. On this note I better make sure my seat belt is on BEFORE I pull out of my carport. Parked at the curb, downtown, ignition off,key still engaged, yakking on my cell phone. Could I still be fined for using a phone ? Because, after all I was "in control" of my car. Maybe it depends if the cop is having a slow day and left his tazer in his locker at work.
"On this note I better make sure my seat belt is on BEFORE I pull out of my carport. "

When else would you put it on? I usually put my seatbelt on before I go anywhere. What was your point again?
PETA protester hit with pie outside N.L. hotel where Harper speaking
Junco, its my duty to add a little humor to this site..... sometimes it comes out funny, most times it falls flat.
Seamutt, it is a right-wing denier rant. There is no basis in science for those comments.
Never mind, Mr. PG. Touche, eh? :)
Maverick, Metalman,

The reason for using your signal is simple, it tells the people waiting to enter the round a bout that your leaving and there is a gap in traffic.

Another good reason, its the law. No different than speeding or running a stop sign, if a cop see's you, you can get a ticket.

What it seems you cant figure out is that intersection is a high industrial traffic intersection, if you come into the circle then veer off without a signal, the trucks have to come to a complete stop because you didnt signal, there is no other choice. If you would do what you are required to do by law, then the traffic would move more freely and allow the trucks to not clog up the lanes.

That, and its simple courtesy.
newtechie

Thanks you, that is the best explanation I have seen for using a round about. That should be pasted on the front page of the newspaper once a week for a couple of months to get into the thick skulls of drivers in this town.

"If the vehicle has a signal on, ignore it since there are so many people that get it wrong, you never know what the driver will do next."

These people you refer to are obviously the security check people at airports.
astro I suggest you get caught up on the corruption and corrupted science of climate change. Go to at least this website and start getting caught up wattsupwiththat.com. Be happy paying your carbon tax for nothing.

If man quit emitting C02, which is only 3% of world wide total C02 by the way, in 100 years the difference in temperature would only be 1 degree. Canada's contribution is only 3% of that 3%. Lots of money is being made promoting the globull warming scam.
