New Clean Air Bylaw Says Backyard Wienie Roasts O.K.

Prince George, B.C.- A new clean air bylaw will be presented to Council tonight. While it still allows for recreational fires, there are restrictions on the size of the fire pit, the type of wood that can be burned, the location of the pit, and the provision that there must be fire extinguishing materials at hand. Not obeying the new clean air bylaw could result in a fine of no less than $2,000 and no more than $10 grand. The bylaw also offers rules on dust suppression, use of wood as the only heating source, and some wood heat appliances.
The new bylaw is before Council this eveing for first and second readings, if granted, there will be a series of public consultation sessions set up to explain the new bylaw before it goes back to Council for 3rd reading.
The “Wood First” theme is evident for this evening’s regular meeting of Prince George City Council.
The Council of Forest Industries will make a presentation on why the City should adopt a wood first policy as well as how to ensure the policy is enacted upon . Then Mayor Rodgers will introduce a wood first resolution which calls for the development of a wood first residential zone, and the use of wood first in construction.
